Interviewed Dec 2011 in Washington, DC (took 4+ weeks)
The company seems very successfully and definately a great place to start after your final year of college. The process took far too long and it was very dragged out. It was a bit unfair having followed up so many times and having to wait so long to be contacted. Everyone was very nice for the interview day. I thought I would have gotten the offer after my interview rounds, but did not get the offer.

Interviewed Sep 2011 in Buffalo, NY (took a day)
Extremely strange interview. The interviewer was a VP who came to my school to conduct interviews for the Management Development Program. He started off the interview with the basic "Tell me about yourself" and when I was done with that he had no more questions and just started ranting about Buffalo, his family, the interview process, and had no coherent strategy to the interview. I tried to talk about my skills and why I was interested in the bank and he just stared at me. Then I asked about the marketing positions for which I was applying and he knew nothing about them, nor did he know any details about the program. If you're going to interview someone, you should be abe to answer a few softball questions!
A couple weeks after the interview I got an email that I needed to fill out a long online application. I thought this was a good sign and completed the whole thing. Within 5 minutes of submitting it I received a rejection notice from them saying I didn't get the job! Why did I have to fill out the application if I was going to get slammed anyways?
M&T Bank might be a good place to work, but their interview process definitely needs some work.

Interviewed Nov 2010 (took a day)
They bring a lot of candidates in on the same day and set up a lunch with enthusiastic former MDPs. First interview of the day was with an HR recruiter that I'd been in contact with. She asked straightforward behavioral questions.
Four other interviews were one-on-one with VPs in the department I was interviewing for. They asked a lot of the same questions and gave me a lot of the same information. Behavioral and fit questions. They did not ask any technical questions.

Interviewed Aug 2008 in Buffalo, NY (took 1 week)
Shot an e-mail to a contact I had in the company about possibly working for him. He suggested the MDP, and forwarded my info. Had a phone interview with a few people in the department. No tough questions, to speak of. I was not in Buffalo at the time, which is why I only had a phone interview.

Negotiation Details
Originally offered $45k with a $3k signing bonus and $2.5k moving allowance. Salary was non-negotiable for this position, but was able to negotiate a $5k signing bonus. Very easy. Just don't be afraid to ask. I imagine they're less apt to do this now, though, given the economy.
Other Details
The interview consisted of a Phone Interview, a Group/Panel Interview, a Drug Test and a Background Check.

Interviewed Mar 2010 in Buffalo, NY (took a day)
Interview consisted of a 30 minute personality interview. The interviewer was very personable and the whole interview did not feel too stressful. Since M&T is a regional bank, they really want you to know the presence and business of the company. They are looking for someone who is willing to relocate to Northeast region.

Interviewed Jan 2009 in Buffalo, NY (took 2 days)
The first stage of the interview was an onsite (in my case a college fair) f2f interview with a regional manager. Fairly straight forward process, starting with why you are interested in the banking industry, the position, and program, etc. Then some general background and behavioral questions. If you can give some clear and, hopefully impressive, examples of leadership and assertiveness to succeed then you win a plane ride to their headquarters up in chilly Buffalo, NY.
At headquarters, it's a 5 round interview where you meet with senior HR members, the Director(s) to whatever division you're applying for, and an alum of the MDP program (who is who you also go to lunch with). Again, they ask you the same type of questions, but with more emphasis on leadership and some technical skills here and there. Also be prepared to talk about the bank and what you know about them! Nothing extreme, actually pretty straight forward stuff. Unfortunately for me it was one of my first "professional" interviews and due to my lack of interview experience, I believe I overtalked and bored them to death. Had I prepared for this much more, I'm almost sure I would have gotten the position. Culture looked a little mundane for my taste though, (and Buffalo does rank pretty low in terms of QOL) so I'll be fatalistic and say that maybe it was meant to be. Good luck to whoever pursues a career here as the program is meant to develop you professionally.
