Interviewed Nov 2011 in Fort Worth, TX (took a day)
The interview is pretty easy; however, the waiting time is quite long. There are too many people in a long line. The typical questions is such as "why do you want to work for Macy's?" and "If our store doesn't have the merchandise which customer needs, what would you do?"

Interviewed Nov 2011 in Plano, TX (took a day)
I applied online and got an email the next morning to set up an interview. It was all done online. I wore all black to my interview because I heard that was the dress code, and arrived about 15 minutes early. The interview was very casual and laid back. She said she had to ask me at least 3 questions from a list provided by Macy's. They were easy questions, and she didn't seem to care about my answers. This job was only seasonal and I think they planned on hiring anybody who bothered to come in. After that she asked about my availability and whether I wanted to work sales or recovery. I chose recovery because I didn't want to deal with the register being around the holiday season! Sales people only get paid 25 cents more anyway. She said recovery was good because I didn't have to deal with sales goals. After that she had me come in a few days later to fill out paperwork, and another day I came back for "training". It was just reading over company policy stuff and watching some videos on the computer. It took an hour and a half for training.

I didn't negotiate. I put on my application I expected atleast 7.25 and she said they offer more than that (8.25), and that's what she gave me.

Interviewed Jan 2012 in Fort Myers, FL (took a day)
I had my interview recently and it was one on one. The interviewer was very friendly and professional. She took me back and asked me the basic interview questions ( why Macy's? Tell me about yourself? etc etc) I was hoping to get something at the makeup counter but I don't know, still waiting to hear back. Hopefully soon!

Interviewed Oct 2011 in Jackson, TN (took a day)
I was asked alot of personality questions such as.... "Do you consider yourself a go getter?" "How do you plan on making a sale? What would you say to a customer and suppose they say no. What then? Then she told me what they wanted as far as what to say and how to come back to anyone who didn't want to buy or sign up for a CC. I answered correctly to their standards. Be pushy. I was told how commission works. I was on a training video test station with a real register to learn how to work the register. I was on my own for that whole day except for when I went to find somebody to help me and she was very nice even though she was upper management and had other things to do.

We talked about hours. I was told I'd get lots of hours and even overtime. So far I've got about 20 hrs on one week and that was under minimum wage because it was training then the next two weeks combined I have had about 13 hrs.

Interviewed Apr 2011 (took 2 weeks)
I filled out an application online that consisted of situational questions and questions that pertained to the position. I received an email a short time later with a link to macysjobs.com where I was to go and schedule myself for an interview. The interview went very quickly. It probably lasted less than ten minutes. I was asked questions similar to the online assessment and questions about myself. The interviewer seemed to be in a hurry, but he was easy to talk to. At the end of the interview, I was told that the people in charge would look over everything and I would receive an email as to whether I or not I would be offered employment. The email came and I was not offered employment, but it was good practice for interviewing.
