Interviewed Jun 2011 in Newport, NJ (took 1+ week)
I applied through careerbuilder over the weekend and I received an email on Monday morning telling me my resume had been reviewed and I was being considered for the position. The email contained a link that redirected me to their automated interview scheduling system, and I selected a time slot.
The day of the interview I showed up 10 mm earlier. Not everyone was wearing a suit but I was, I am happy I did because the people that interviewed me were wearing a business attire. I also took care to copy Macy's dress code for their advisors which is all black/or a one-color blouse allowed if wearing a vest on top of it.
The first lady explained to me that the interview had 4 to 5 steps. However after our interview she seemed pleased enough and she fetched her boss for the second interview. After the second interview, they deliberated and decided to see if they could just find the person for the 3rd interview but the lady had gone for lunch. They said that I would get a call back to proceed with the process and they let me know I had been proposed for fashion fair, the night shift.
The week after got a call from the fashion fair lady and she called me in. I subsequently went to meet her and I could tell she was very worried about the fact that I was wearing minimal makeup. It was in the 100s, and I did not judge it clever to be wearing a suit and several layers of makeup that day. By the end of the interview I had a funny feeling, because she kept staring at my face and asking if I was usually wearing more makeup than that. She also started addressing me like I was a little girl, funny enough. Probably because of my lack of experience in makeup, but it should not have been a problem since they SPECIFIED that training would be provided.
She said she would talk to her superior and let me go.
Less than an hour latter her superior called me and said she would not be able to meet me and that she would like to interview me over the phone there and then.. I was still in the mall but I still accepted it, to be polite. She obviously was concerned about the lack of experience and decided to tell me about the brand, it's seniority, etc. She asked me few questions beforehand and then said I would get a call from the first person that interviewed me to let me know. Few minutes after, I received a call saying I would bot be a good fit for the job because of my lack of experience. fashion fair is a brand that banks on seniority so I sorta sw it coming. I was however thinking that they should have asked for experienced mature women then, and not make me go through these rounds after I told them specifically I had no makeup experience, both on my resume and in the very first round. I believe it would have been better if I had not been matched with Fashion Fair.
