Interviewed Feb 2011 (took 5 days)
First I applied online. Then I received an email (within 3 days) stating I've been selected for an interview. I choose an available interview time and met with the store manager approx 2 days after the email. Then I was called back by the dept manager to schedule and interview with them. That was approx 2 days later. After interviewing with her, I was suppose to meet with the cosmetic company's account executive. The AE was not able to meet. So the store manager called me back and offered me the job. The entire interview process from 1st interview to job offer was approx 1 week.

Interviewed May 2011 in Massapequa, NY (took a day)
I applied online for the early morning support team position and was contacted via email shortly after to schedule an interview using their online scheduling process. I interviewed at the Macy's that the position was for. I arrived fifteen minutes early to the interview and was greeted very nicely. There was no one else there to be interviewed at the time. I was interviewed on time . I was taken into a small room that was not being utilized at the time. The one on one interview was very non- threatening and took about under one hour to complete. Very common interview questions were asked throughout the process. I was told at the end of the interview that there was very little work available at the time in that area. I was told that I would definately here from someone by the end of the week regarding my interview. I did not hear back from anyone via any form of communication.

Interviewed Jun 2011 in Newport, NJ (took 1+ week)
I applied through careerbuilder over the weekend and I received an email on Monday morning telling me my resume had been reviewed and I was being considered for the position. The email contained a link that redirected me to their automated interview scheduling system, and I selected a time slot.
The day of the interview I showed up 10 mm earlier. Not everyone was wearing a suit but I was, I am happy I did because the people that interviewed me were wearing a business attire. I also took care to copy Macy's dress code for their advisors which is all black/or a one-color blouse allowed if wearing a vest on top of it.
The first lady explained to me that the interview had 4 to 5 steps. However after our interview she seemed pleased enough and she fetched her boss for the second interview. After the second interview, they deliberated and decided to see if they could just find the person for the 3rd interview but the lady had gone for lunch. They said that I would get a call back to proceed with the process and they let me know I had been proposed for fashion fair, the night shift.
The week after got a call from the fashion fair lady and she called me in. I subsequently went to meet her and I could tell she was very worried about the fact that I was wearing minimal makeup. It was in the 100s, and I did not judge it clever to be wearing a suit and several layers of makeup that day. By the end of the interview I had a funny feeling, because she kept staring at my face and asking if I was usually wearing more makeup than that. She also started addressing me like I was a little girl, funny enough. Probably because of my lack of experience in makeup, but it should not have been a problem since they SPECIFIED that training would be provided.
She said she would talk to her superior and let me go.
Less than an hour latter her superior called me and said she would not be able to meet me and that she would like to interview me over the phone there and then.. I was still in the mall but I still accepted it, to be polite. She obviously was concerned about the lack of experience and decided to tell me about the brand, it's seniority, etc. She asked me few questions beforehand and then said I would get a call from the first person that interviewed me to let me know. Few minutes after, I received a call saying I would bot be a good fit for the job because of my lack of experience. fashion fair is a brand that banks on seniority so I sorta sw it coming. I was however thinking that they should have asked for experienced mature women then, and not make me go through these rounds after I told them specifically I had no makeup experience, both on my resume and in the very first round. I believe it would have been better if I had not been matched with Fashion Fair.

Interviewed Oct 2010 (took a day)
I was interviewed by HR for a seasonal position. The interview took approximately 30 minutes. I was hired at the end of the interview. I was asked 2 behavioral question - What would you do if you were asked to do something that made you feel uncomfortable? Also asked what would you do if you saw an employee doing something against the company, for example stealing.

Interviewed Jul 2011 in Colonie, NY (took a day)
Interviewed with a department manager. She asked basic questions about why I would want to work at Macy's, when I have worked in a team, how I deal with difficult or angry customers. She seemed enthusiastic, answered my questions, then made me an offer to work in Handbags instead of Menswear. I accepted, even though it wasn't a commissioned position, which is what I had interviewed for. The next day she called me at home and told me that the position in Handbags wasn't open after all, and asked if I would work in Lingerie instead. I wasn't thrilled with that, but accepted.

Interviewed Oct 2010 in Philadelphia, PA (took a day)
I received an email within days to set up an interview time. My interview basically consisted of the HR Generalist asking me when I could start. In so many words, I told her we needed to rewind a bit. I then came to realize that they didn't have the position available that I applied for. I asked why they reached out to me if the position wasn't available, and she told me that other positions were open. The position I applied for was for a Merchandiser, and they wanted to place me in an entry level minimum wage sales position. I told them after years of visual and Store Management experience, it would be a bit of a step down. She said she'd discuss it with the store manager. They called me in a few days later and told me they'd put me in a selling specialist position until the merchandising position opened up on January 15th. This was nothing more than a lie they told me to coerce me into filling an important position before the holiday season. I was never promoted.
Negotiation Details
Yes, slightly. My previous job was a Store Manager, in which I was earning roughly $25/hr. They offered me $9.50/hr. After nearly two weeks of going back and forth, they went up an entire dollar bringing my hourly rate up to $10.50. Out of desperation, and in preparation for getting laid off, I accepted the offer.

Interviewed Jun 2011 in Holyoke, MA (took a day)
I've done the interview twice now, at two different Macy's locations and both were extremely easy. They always need people so I think they try not to set the standards too high. Both times it was a one- on- one interview with a person from HR. I was asked basic questions that focused on customer service experience, that was key. Nothing was really that difficult, for one of the interviews I didn't even prepare and still did fine.

Interviewed Oct 2010 (took 1 week)
I applied online and received an e-mail probably a day or two later asking me to schedule an interview. I went in and it lasted about a half hour. Asking basic questions about what you did in a situation with someone who was upset, how you are a team player, etc. Not a hard interview at all.
