Applied for commission sales associate position. Called in for the interview and had been told it was filled. Continued the interview with a manager who had an opening in his dept and human resource rep. Very Easy interview, will hire just about anyone and it was my first job. Took less than 2 hours with paper work. Started same week.

I was asked to sell a product to a manager. The product was a stapler.
I had to pretend he was a customer and they were looking for key points and details.

Interviewed with a department manager. She asked basic questions about why I would want to work at Macy's, when I have worked in a team, how I deal with difficult or angry customers. She seemed enthusiastic, answered my questions, then made me an offer to work in Handbags instead of Menswear. I accepted, even though it wasn't a commissioned position, which is what I had interviewed for. The next day she called me at home and told me that the position in Handbags wasn't open after all, and asked if I would work in Lingerie instead. I wasn't thrilled with that, but accepted.

Negotiation Details

There is no negotiation for salary at Macy's. Take it or leave it. Eight dollars an hour for fulltime sales associates, with no commission - yet you are given a sales goal to meet, as if you were a commissioned employee.

met with dept manager for 1 on 1 interview. great interview that started from job related to laid back how was your weekend talk. interview lasted about an hour and was comfortable the entire time. the job was offered at the end of interview and allowed for a great opportunity to excel at retail commission sales.
