Interviewed Apr 2011 in Aventura, FL (took a day)
Everyone in the HR department was busy. Therefore, my interview was much later than the scheduled time. I was first interviewed by a general manager, who asked me if I had ever worked on commission. I responded that I hadn't but that I had worked for the company in a different location. He inquired about the department in which I worked. I told him handbags. He then called the manager of that department to interview me. She asked me some questions regarding how I deal with strong personalities because those who work in that department have strong personalities. She then got the hiring paperwork and I was hired on the spot.

Interviewed Apr 2012 (took a day)
After an initial mix up with my appointment , I was seen very quickly. It was a one on one interview for a position in the furniture sales department. Overall, I felt it was very informative. The interviewer had very straightforward answers to my questions about Macy's and was very forthcoming about the details and expectations of the position.

Interviewed Dec 2011 in Danbury, CT (took a day)
It was a simple interview for a holiday position. I was called in and interviewed one on one by a manager and offered a job on the spot and started training the next day.

Interviewed Feb 2012 in Aventura, FL (took 3 days)
I applied online and was invited to an interview via the next day. I was able to schedule an interview for the following week. On the day of the interview, I spoke with a hiring manager, was asked a variety of situational questions, then the person I was interviewing with asked if I would be flexible with placement. Since I was interested in part time, I had no preference on department. Another department manager was called in and interviewed/ informed me about another position. After I gave a brief description of my work experience (none in retail) I was offered the position on the spot. I filled out paperwork and was scheduled for orientation.

Interviewed Feb 2012 in Boynton Beach, FL (took 3 weeks)
I completed an online application and received an email from Macys two days later. The email was a reply to set a time for my interview using their scheduling application. - Very straightforward. I set my appointment for earliest availability which was two days away. Interview day arrives and I manage to find my way to the HR/Customer service department. - So far so good. The interview goes by smoothly, with no problems and very standard sales/retail oriented questions as well as basic interview questions. At the end of the interview, the HR associate tells me they want to hire me. - Sounds great. She goes on to say, however there are no positions available in which you applied for. -My mind basically goes somewhere into the form of, why did I just do an interview... She goes on to inform me, that she has temp positions available, and flex team positions. - I applied for full time. I politely explained to her I wanted a full time position. So in the end we agreed to call me back if something opened up in a full time capacity. 2 weeks pass. I get a call on a Saturday saying the HR manager wants to set an appointment with me for the coming Monday in the morning. -I am skeptical at this point, I ask if there are full time positions available. The associate assures me there are. I go to the interview on Monday, we the expectation of a full time position. Once again I am disappointed. I speak with the manager for approximately 5 minutes. They want to hire me, but have no full time positions and want to hire me for a Flex position.... In the end I declined the position. The staff are friendly and polite, but their administration skills leaves something to be desired.

Interviewed May 2011 (took a day)
Absolutely ridiculous. I shoudl've asked how can you not get hired. The interview questions must have been ripped from a google search on interview questions. I know the job isn't asking for much but I think I could've answered any way I wanted to, said I was a convicted felon, failed drug gets and I still would have gotten the instructions to come in next Monday.

Interviewed Jul 2011 (took a day)
I did the application online several times. I was declined on the first interview by the manager but had a second interview shortly after with a different manager whom insisted that I had a great attitude. I then received the phone call to set a date for the 1:1 interview.
When it came time to interview I did not panic. The interview was your typical interview with typical questions along the lines of 'what would you do in this situation', and 'name a time when you went over and beyond'. Really typical customer service / retail questions.
The funny thing is that I believe that the hiring and interview process has major faults. There are some times when people will not get hired just because the interviewer does not like a certain aspect about the interviewee. Waivers should be signed for the interview process to be completely unbiased.
Anyway, I passed the interview the second time with flying colors. The people were not intimidating at all. It definitely was not the worst interview I have been to.
Negotiation Details
There was no negotiation phase. If you want more money you would have to speak up. I thought it was going to come up somewhere in the interview.

Interviewed Jul 2010 in Alexandria, VA (took 5 days)
It was a very quick process. I applied online then got an email to schedule an interview. I had my interview with the manager of the area I would work in. She asked me if I had any retail experience (which is not required) I gave her some examples. We shared some laughs. Then she extended the offer. Which I accepted. I started 3 days later.

Interviewed Oct 2011 in King of Prussia, PA (took a day)
Typical Macy's interview questions. Just read through the reviews here, contains almost all the questions they will ask. Employees there seem happy. The interview went very well, but at the end the manager said she doesn't have a full time position to offer which was what I applied. It's a waste of time if you were scheduled for a full time position interview but then told no position to offer.
