Interview Details – Filled out an application online. Got the e-mail to schedule an in person interview with the manager. Was told I would get a position and a week later was called for orientation.
Interview Question – You get asked how you would get someone to apply for the Macy's card, so learning about the card helps. Answer Question
Negotiation Details – No negotiation. I didn't push it either since it was my first retail job.
Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Temple Hills, MD May 2010 – Reviewed Oct 23, 2012
Interview Details – I applied online the week before leaving college at a location not far from my home. I ended up being contacted for an interview a day or two later, I set the date and time then confirmed the interview. A situation came up where I had to reschedule the interview, so I did so online. I confirmed the new date and time for the interview and arrived on time. I was asked to come to the back only to hear they were no longer hiring and to try another location. I applied to the location down the street from my home where I landed an interview with the regional manager she complimented me on my makeup and wardrobe, asked what department I would like to work in, my availability and told me I was hired. I re applied last year, went through the interview process until we got to the pay section of thr interview. It appears they pay less than when I started. I told her I made more as a on call associate, she then left the room for five minutes and explained they were no longer hiring to check another location.
Interview Question – What do you consider STAR customer service? Answer Question
Negotiation Details – First time I tried to get 8.00 but their highest pay was 7.25 I was able to get 7.50. The last time no negotiation they wouldn't offer what I made so I was not offered the position.
Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Bridgewater, NJ May 2009 – Reviewed Oct 8, 2012
Interview Details – Basically you apply online for a specific position that is open in the store you want to work in. After being filtered through some computer system, if it gets past that point (I'm unsure who they filter out, and how), it gets sent to the human resource manager. From there they call you in for an interview with a manager, and then they decide whether or not to hire you from there.
Interview Question – Honestly I don't really know. The interview process isn't really hard at all, more than anything it's a joke. They don't care about retention whatsoever, they know they can find a replacement for you somewhat quickly. Answer Question
Negotiation Details – There is no negotiation. It's a huge corporation and for an hourly sales associate it is a - this is what will will pay you and that's it. Either you accept their low wage offer or you find another employer.

Declined Offer – Interviewed in Franklin, TN Aug 2012 – Reviewed Aug 13, 2012
Interview Details – Submitted an online application, called to schedule an interview. Went in for an interview with one of the general managers. Spoke for 15-20 minutes, called in the manager for the department I was applying for.
Interview Questions
Reason for Declining – The base pay was significantly less than equivalent to the gas money I'd be spending to drive to work. The interview was also extremely unprofessional-- they didn't even know what position they were interviewing me for.
No Offer – Interviewed in Plano, TX – Reviewed Aug 4, 2012
Interview Details – I applied online. I received an invitation to schedule an interview less than 24 hours later. I scheduled the interview. As I was waiting for the interview, I overheard the previous interviewer talking with someone in another room. This person said they didn't have any on-call positions available. I'm not sure why they even scheduled me for an interview then. Another male interviewer called me in for my interview. He must have been having a bad day because he acted put out the entire interview. He started by drilling me on why I could only work weekends. I found it baffling that they even called me in for an interview for 2 reasons. 1. There were no on call positions available and 2. My available hours were on the application. Why even call me if they didn't fit their needs? He then proceeded to read interview questions off a sheet. These were the typical retail questions. Then he got to the question about whether I was available weekends, holidays, early mornings, days, evenings and nights. I said yes (meaning on the weekend). He more or less said AHA, but you can only work on the weekends. I told him that I was sorry, but I obviously misunderstood how the flex position worked, but no I couldn't be available 24/7. I think he felt bad then and backed down. He said I didn't have to be available 24/7, but he needed more availability. I said I was a little confused by that since I put my availability on the application, but thank you. I then left and he jumped up to get the door for me. So, to sum it up, it was a learning experience, but a huge waste of time.
Interview Question – Schedule questions. For a flexible position they weren't very flexible. Answer Question
Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Bowie, MD Jun 2012 – Reviewed Aug 6, 2012
Interview Details – Simple online application, I received an e-mail soon after telling me to schedule for a job interview. When I went, I had to wait quite a while for my interview, which wasn't bad. I didn't even apply for cosmetics, but that's what I was asked about, and I was told I got the job at the end of the interview. Pretty typical questions, like how you'd make a sale or upsell, why I wanted to work at Macy's, a time I made a sale, when I had received exceptional service somewhere, and stuff like that. I had to wait a while before I filled out the actual hiring paperwork though.
Interview Question – A time I had to sell a product or idea. It threw me off a little, but I came up with an appropriate answer. Answer Question

This was my first job interview ever, and was going to be my first job.
When I first arrived, they had problems figuring out who was going to interview me, but other than that it was fine.
It was a rather quick process and involved questions like, "Why do you want to work here? Have you ever shown leadership to others and explain what happened? If you ever caught someone stealing what would you do?" It was pretty much like a job assessment when you apply... but being nervous and all for my first interview I really wasn't ready for such open-ended questions.

Short and sweet.
They send you an email to schedule your own interview time and tell you to come in 5-10 min early. I did exactly that, I checked in and waited for about 15 minutes.
A woman came out and called me in for an interview, we sat in an office and had a one on one interview. She was very friendly and enthusiastic, which put me at ease, and only asked a couple of questions.
She then decided that she wanted to hire me on the spot, so she pulled out paper work and explained to me the posistion, training and orientation. Very quick and easy.
