Interviewed Feb 2012 in Phoenix, AZ (took 3 days)
I was looking for jobs on craigslist and came upon a listing for Macy's Biltmore that said they were hiring full and part time sales associates and I submitted my application online that night. Soon after, I scheduled an interview at the soonest available time slot, but I got a call the next day asking if I could come in a day earlier. When I got in they had me sit for a minute and there was one guy there who said he was there for training. I didn't see any other people there to interview. I wore all black because that is the dress code for employees at Macy's. Someone else on here said she thought if you dress cute and have good makeup, they would probably put you in cosmetics, so that is what I tried to do, but I think if they offer you a job, it will be in whatever department they have available. So anyway, I got called back into the conference room by one of the store managers and she had my resume and all the information I submitted online. She asked a few questions to confirm some of the information she had and a few other things like if I had any sales experience, why Macy's, things like that. She said there was an opening for part time in women's Ready to Wear and then asked if I wanted a quick tour of the store where she pointed out the exact area I would be working in. After that we went back to the conference room and she offered me the job, which of course I accepted. I had been hoping for a full time position, but I am glad I started out at part time. She said the starting wage was 8.50 and hour and she scheduled me to come back and fill out new hire paperwork as well as do training on the register. For both of these I picked the soonest available time slots because I wanted her to know that I really was looking forward to getting started (I'm glad I did because she turned out to be the manager that I report to most of the time). I interviewed on a Saturday and did paperwork and register training through the week, and had my first shift the following Saturday, so it was a really quick process. I had the register training, but no other training before my first shift, so I felt like I was kind of thrown out there before I was ready. I didn't have new hire orientation/training until one or two weeks later which I really didn't like about the system. At this orientation, it was mentioned several times that the reason we were hired was because of our attitude and that they would rather hire someone with no sales experience and a great attitude than someone with 20 years of sales experience and a crappy attitude. That would be my one recommendation is to go into it with a great attitude. I'm normally a pretty shy and quiet person, but I made a point in my interview to be more outgoing and bubbly. I'm not sure if I was my normal quiet if I would have gotten the job. I've been working at Macy's about 3 months now and I really do enjoy it! My coworkers and managers are all great, and I've only had a few problem customers. The store I work at isn't at a normal mall, it's in a very high end shopping center and we have customers who will drive past other Macy's locations just to come to our store. I think this is one of the big reasons why I've had such a great experience. My dream is to become a photographer, but I plan to continue working here and hopefully get to be a full time associate so that I can have a steady income while doing photography on the side until I can make photography my full time job. I am really looking forward to my future with this company!

Negotiation Details
There was no negotiation. I'm sure if I didn't accept the offer of $8.50 an hour, there would have been someone else happy to take my spot.

Interviewed May 2012 in New York, NY (took a day)
I went to 34th street herald square Macys. I went in for an interview, very difficult to find, was on the 8-th floor. I waited for about 30 minutes got an Hiring manager, interviewed. The environment of the interview area looked like a small classroom, other interviews are conducted in there at the same time you are having your interview. It sounded like a speed-date function or job fair. The manager asked me, why Macys? why should we choose you? prior experiences? availability, etc. They do make the responsibilities seem bigger than it really is during the interview.

Negotiation Details
I was unable to negotiate an offer. I was a part-time associate. A lot of other people got a better offer than I did but they were in different departments and had more experience in retail.

Interviewed May 2012 in Peabody, MA (took a day)
I applied online, thanks to Snag a job and a day after i got an email saying i was invited to interview with Macy's. I was surprised how quick i got a response. i then scheduled my interview for 2 days after. The interview was about 15 minutes. I was nervous but the interviewer was nice and i felt comfortable during the interview. THANKS to all the other post on here i was prepared for it. He read questions off of a piece of paper such as, why Macy's, how would you get someone to buy more after you helped them find an item, how would you approach a costumer about signing up for a Macy's card, tell me about a time where you took leadership in a group task, tell me about a time where you witnessed coworkers or costumers steal, how did you except a major change in a work environment &when was the last time you gave an idea in a group setting &did they use it. Overal, it was a good/easy interview (again, thanks to this website).

Interviewed Feb 2011 (took 1 week)
I applied online and received an email from Macy's asking me to schedule an interview very shortly afterward. I went in for my interview and was hired on the spot. At first I thought I must have had a good interview, but now I think maybe they were just desperate for people.

Negotiation Details
I was given a Flex Team position instead of a Sales Associate position, which is about the same, except hour requirements are different, and I filled in shifts in every department vs. just staying in one department. This allowed me to pick my own schedule more easily.

Interviewed Nov 2010 (took a day)
This was a very casual interview, and it only took one day. I was asked the basics interview questions such as why do you want to work here, do you have any experience in retail etc... I was then offered the job position on the spot and accepted it. And I was offered what I expected to get at an hourly rate working seasonally.

Interviewed Apr 2012 in Winston Salem, NC (took a day)
First I received an email telling me that I was invited to come in for an interview. Second I had to chose a time slot for the interview that worked for me. When I went in for the interview there was no one to interview me at the scheduled time. An employee asked me if I was there for an interview and that would let someone know so I could be interviewed. Eventually I was interviewed. It was short and went okay.
