Very Easy Interview
Expeditor Interview (Positive Experience; Very Easy Interview)
I applied online and the process took 1+ week - interviewed at Macy's in October 2012.
Interview Details – Applied online and receive an email to schedule for an appointment 2 days later. Arrived an hour early for the interview and since the manager was done with an earlier appointment, they pushed my appointment forward.
The 1 on 1 interview is fairly easy, the manager will ask you all the questions on his check list and grade you on the spot, and if you're hired you'll know right there because they;ll ask you right after the interview when can you come in for orientation, if not then you're not hired and will receive a decline email within 2-3 days.
Negotiation Details – The salary is pretty much set, you can't negotiate.

Sales Specialist Interview (Neutral Experience; Average Interview)
I applied online - interviewed at Macy's in August 2012.
Interview Details – I was called by a manager for an interview but it took several calls to eventually get a date to come in. I had to wait to meet with her, but eventually we did talk and I talked with the assistant store manager. They seemed professional but the followup was not well planned. I was strung along for several weeks before I was hired.
Interview Question – They wanted to know how I would handle various scenarios with both co-workers and customers. Answer Question
Beauty Advisor Interview (Negative Experience; Average Interview)
I applied online and the process took 3 months - interviewed at Macy's in January 2013.
Interview Details – I had to go through 3 separate interviews in order to get an offer. The first interview was with the Cosmetics Department manager. The second was with the brand executive and the third was with the brand manager and executive. They all asked very similar questions such as why they should hire you, what can you bring to the team and they ask many situational questions. It was overall very easy except for the fact that they take weeks to call back.
Interview Question – If you gave cream samples to customers and you had to call back and ask them how they liked it, how would you respond to customers who didn't like the product? Answer Question
Store Manager Interview (Positive Experience; Easy Interview)
I applied through college or university and the process took a day - interviewed at Macy's in October 2012.
Interview Details – I was recruited on my college campus. I went to two meetings held by Macy's for more information. The recruiters were very nice and very knowledgeable in the EDP program. After I was offered an on-campus interview which lasted about an hour and a half total. It was a two part interview, first behavioral and then a quasi case study.
Interview Question – Explain a time when you had to make a quick decision. Answer Question
Manager, PMO - Project Manager Interview (Neutral Experience; Easy Interview)
I applied through a recruiter and the process took 5 days - interviewed at Macy's in November 2012.
Interview Details – Contacted by a recruiting firm. Given the job description for a management position. Had phone interview with hiring manager. Researched company and prepared Action Plan in prep for my onsite. Got to the interview, had lunch with the hiring manager, we clicked nicely - we reviewed my action plan etc. The job in fact was not for a manager PMO, but a project manager with the possibility of moving into that role once established. The manager told me at lunch, she already knew she would get feedback from certain interviewers about having enough Agile experience - and she hears that from one or two of them a lot. Please keep in mind, it was what Macys.com considers to be Agile. She told me not to worry about that. I then, interviewed with 3 current employees. Two interviews went fairly well, One was very painful to get through. Her response to my answers was, "Then what", Then what. So much of this went on I almost felt I needed to insert, "Then I went to the bathroom", "Then I flossed my teeth. I finally asked of her, what is it your needing to pull out of me? I want to make sure I am correctly addressing your questions. She then said to me, I want to determine your Agile experience. This interviewer had a very hard time understanding that sprints can be of different duration based on the work, desire of the product owner, priority. She seemed stuck that because I had managed 30 day sprints, I wasn't going to be able to handle 2 week sprints as they do at Macys. She also was surprised in that in my last role and many roles before that I managed several different initiatives, using different methodologies, under different roles. This seemed forgein to her. She wants to move into Program Management, and I wish her a lot of luck with that. Perhaps after a few years under her belt, she will be able to understand that at times, you can play a multitude of roles with multiple priorities, different sponsors w/different deliverables. "Real World".
Interview Question – What next? Then I update JIRA. What next? Review the backlog and adjust accordingly/? What next? Begin working priorities/stories with the product owner for next piece of work? What next? What next? What next? Answer Question
