Smooth process. Set up the interview online based on my schedule and when they had available spots to come in. Once we conducted the interview I was tested on the floor. The interviewer told me to pull 3 looks for 3 different girls going to the same party, all within a specific color story.

Interviewed Apr 2012 (took 2 days)
I applied for this job using Macysjobs.com. The Taleo system that Macy's uses very quickly recognized me as a possible good candidate. Unfortunately, it was clear that the hiring manager had only seen my resume for seconds as I saw the lady from HR take what I believe was my paperwork to her. I believe that if hiring managers were allowed to screen applicants I would not have been called at all.
The hiring manager made me wait for over 20 minutes to be interviewed while she completed her previous appointment. The interview largely consisted of the hiring manager asking for me to talk about my self at first. She then asked if I had any questions. It was clear from the first few seconds that she had no real interest in me. I was just a computer pick.
I could have done without the interview being scheduled at all since I clearly did not meet the preconceived notions that the hiring manager had for her team.
The rejection email came more than 48 hours later, but I could tell before the end of my 20 minute interview that it had been a waste of time.

Interviewed Oct 2011 (took a day)
Manager was very nice. Asked me to talk about myself. Looked at my portfolio. I interviewed for a full time position but he said they just hired someone. he offered me pt seasonal. i took it on the spot. training was bogus had nothing to do with my job. Most employees were very nice. Some people on my team had attitudes but I figured maybe they were threatened by me.

Interviewed Oct 2010 (took a day)
I was contacted about a week after I had applied to an online posting. I had a one on one interview that lasted about an hour and a half. I had a strong portfolio which helped tremendously bc in this line of career, they want to see what you are capable of doing/creating. Be prepared to discuss your previous work experiences as well as what you would do in certain situations. Also be familiar with working with foam core and tools.

Interviewed Aug 2011 in Houston, TX (took a day)
I applied online and then got an email saying that I had been invited to interview with them. I called and set uo an interview. The interview was very easy, she asked a few scenario questions in which I answered. I was then hired on the spot, she told me the starting salary and I accepted the offer. Directly after that I was taken to the HR office and I had to fill out a few forms for a background check.

Interviewed Jul 2011 (took a day)
The interview was only 30 minutes. She had standard Macys questions to ask, which she said are more sales oriented. She only asked me acouple of questions and then told me about the position. It was just for a 4-wk temporary position. The mgr seemed to like my heavy experience alot (she mentioned it acouple of times). I thought the interview went really good. But the next morning by 7am I received an automated email saying, "thanks, but no thanks". I tried calling the mgr to inquire, but I was told she was busy with a new-hire. I'm still confused what went wrong.

Interviewed Nov 2010 in Pittsburgh, PA (took a day)
Initially I applied online for the Visual Merchandiser position. Within a few hours I received an email inviting me to schedule an interview so I did. I was excited that they emailed so quickly, that maybe I was a good fit. When I got there for my interview, they were pretty busy. She asked me a few basic questions and said she only had a few seconds to look over my info. She then went on to describe the position, and how large the store was, how many long hours she spends there, and how she got started in the field. Basically telling me I didn't have enough experience. It was pretty frustrating to be almost immediately shot down for it, considering how quick I got an email.
She then offered to talk to another manager for a open sales position. I said ok and was returned to the waiting area. When the other manager came up, he didn't really introduce himself, just starting looking at a chart and after a few minutes said.. "How do you feel about Housewares?". I again said ok, he told me to return the next day with my social security card and they'd officially hire me. And I'd get paid for it.
The next day when I came in, he was no where in sight, and there was no record that he wrote down of me coming in. Another manager offered to talked to me. Which turned into another interview and she suggested a different department. The manager of that department came up to talk to me, and decided I didn't have enough experience for the full time position, but they decided to offer me the part time one in sales.
Interview Questions
Reason for Declining
Not the position I was hoping for. I'm not a huge fan of trying to get sales, and was just frustrated by the whole process.

Interviewed Jul 2009 in Columbus, OH (took 2+ weeks)
I got a call from the visual manager to set up a first interview. I was one of several highly qualified prospects for the position. They were looking for more than a design background, they wanted spirit, energy, and potential, the whole package. Then I was one of 8 that made it to the 2nd round of interviews with the DVM and VM. That went very well. I had very high energy and they were inpressed with my portfolio. They more or less wanted to see how I reacted with them, not so much what I had to offer. Visual works as a team, and they want to hire people who will mesh well with there team.
