Interviewed May 2011 (took 2 days)
I got there and I waited for a while for someone to come get me for the interview. They asked if it would be okay if I did a double interview with someone else. Of course I said yes, and overall it was a great experience. However, at the end they told both of us that they had no available positions.

Interviewed Dec 2009 in San Diego, CA (took a day)
I applied online and was given a time to come in for the interview. The interview process itself was pretty fast although the wait time was pretty long. Probably about 30 min. I was interviewed one on one by the interviewer but was in a room where other interviews were taking place. It was hard to concentrate on the questions and my answers when I was hearing 5 other people being interviewed at the same time. The interviewer didn't really seem to care about getting to know me but wanted to get the interview over and done with.

Interviewed Jun 2009 (took 2 weeks)
I applied online and was emailed maybe 48 hours later. I scheduled an interview. It was a group interview. In my opinion, group interviews are the best because it's an easy hire. They asked a few scenario questions that were pretty simple. They than have you wait for maybe an hour while they do one on ones with everyone in the group. They hired me during the 1:1 interview.
Negotiation Details
I suppose there was room for negotiations, however, at the time, I was seeking employment at the company so that I can get my foot in the door and gain seniority while I finished my undergrad (fashion merchandising).
I definitely think that if you have a salary in mind that is different than what they offer, then you should ask them. Everything happens pretty fast, so you don't want the excitement of landing the job to shadow your desires for better pay.

Interviewed Mar 2011 (took a day)
Fill out an application online. Scheduled an interview online after receiving an email to do so. Went in and there were 3 other people.interviewed by men's department manager. Very unprofessional, and he seemed very distracted and stressed. He couldn't find a place to interview so we walked around the store and talked instead. And my interview was interrupted by him giving orders to his department. Then we ended up out in the mall on chairs. Loud, awkward. I would never work for this company after this interview. Or shop at their stores.

Interviewed Feb 2011 in Palo Alto, CA (took a day)
I applied online for the AST Associate position. I got an email back with an interview date and time. When I went there, it was AST Supervisor who took my interview. It was almost an hour long and he described me what the position was about and other details about the job. After that he told me that AST position is no more available and if I want I can join there Sales team, which was awkward for me because I went there for a different position. I did not accept the offer for a Sales position.

asked about work experience like what kind of experience do you have in retail. If someone wanted to buy a pair of jeans but didn't know what kind they liked, what would you do in that situation??

Interviewed Nov 2010 in Pasadena, CA (took a day)
The initial communication was through Macy's job board web site. I applied for the position online and got an email back to schedule an interview within the week. You don't call the store to check up on the process, they request that you don't. I went to my interview with resume in hand. The manager said the position I had applied for had been filled and asked if there was any other department I would be willing to work in. I said women's shoes as one of the options, went for that interview an hour later (he gave me the option to stay or come back later). I was hired on the spot for a seasonal on call and later was hired for a permanent part time.

Interviewed Jan 2009 in Sherman Oaks, CA (took a day)
I applied online & was scheduled for a group interview. During the group interview, there were direct questions about prior experiences in retail & dealing with customers as well as personality questions like, "If you were an animal, which would you be & why?". After the group session, each applicant was taken out for one on one interviews. Mine was pretty quick, just some simple questions about the departments they were considering putting me in. I should have familiarized myself with the store layout ahead of time because since I admitted that I didnt know what the Impulse deptarment was, they placed me in the private label, INC, instead of the higher end designer area. In the end, the people they hired on the spot were the ones who were dressed fashionably/professionally, indicated positive outcomes to difficult customer service situations, and the people who were active in the conversation instead of just sitting back & waiting to be directly asked questions.

Negotiation Details
I was so desperate for any job that I didn't push for a higher pay rate. I later found out that they will offer you at least $2-$3 less than they are able to pay you, so negotiating is extremely important if you receive a job offer. Pay increases are generally $.40-$.50 every year based on a good review, so if your offer is low, don't expect it to go up any time soon.
