Interviewed Jun 2010 (took 5 days)
Interviewed along with 2 other people. We were asked about our days and hours of availability, and then asked simple situational questions. We were then told to walk around the store and pretend to be customers and come back with a review of the customer service we saw. The lady who interviewed me asked each of us in which department we'd like to work in, and told us that we would be receiving a call from the manager of that department. Never got a call. I realize I should have called myself to follow-up, but I got a job at another place.

Interviewed Jan 2010 (took a day)
Applied for a seasonal position for extra income. Routine hiring process, very straight forward with completing the application and with interviewing. Had general interview questions surrounding sales skills, personality, & goals. Received job offer fairly quickly for a sales associate position. Initially had difficulty adjusting with several female co-workers who worked there permanently, but they were more receptive to my position later on. Had several issues with commission-hungry individuals who would often steal sales. Worked during a busy holiday season. Great working on a short-term basis for extra shopping cash. Also a great way to meet new people. Overall, low-stress and easy job.

Interviewed Nov 2011 in Portland, OR (took 5 days)
There were two one on one interviews. The first one generally asked about any retail or customer service experience, what you would do in certain situations, whether or not you are able to work on days such as Black Friday, Christmas Eve, New Year's Eve and New Years day. The second interview you fill in more details, and you are asked to describe how you would offer the Macy's card to the employer.

Interviewed Oct 2011 in Albuquerque, NM (took 1 week)
I applied online. Within a few days, I got an email for me to schedule an interview. I scheduled the interview for the following week. When I went to the interview, I waited around for about 15 minutes, then got called back. I realized at this point that they were doing one interview after the other. The manager asked me a series of "what if" questions. After about 30 minutes, she said I did well and wanted to offer me the position. I then schedule a time to complete my new hire paperwork.

Negotiation Details
No, I was not able to negotiate. Nobody even told me what I was to be making, which was cents above minimum wage. At the very end of all the paperwork was when I finally signed a piece of paper showing what I was to make. In my area, if you get a job offer, you take it.

Interviewed Aug 2010 (took a day)
A very simple type of interview. I submit my application online and was sent an e-mail saying I had qualified for an interview and I was to choose my interview date. I chose the most convenient day available and showed up on the day an hour early to find that my interview had been postponed an hour. One hour later I arrive at the office and sit down. Not one second later am I greeted by a manager and escorted to their office. I handed her my resume, she glanced at it quickly, and began to ask me questions. The questions were simple: Why Macy's? How would your coworkers describe you? How do you react when you see someone doing something wrong?
I was then asked which department I would have liked to work in. Then, the manager for that deparment arrived and asked me why I would like to work in said department. After that, a paper was being filled out and I was asked my time availability. On the paper my hourly wage was already filled in by the manager and all I had to do was fill out my preferred availability and sign/initial a few things. Done.

I applied for the job online on their website. I went in and noticed couple of people were ahead of me. It took them 30mins to interview me. When I went in, they would ask me some questions that I was prepare for. When I was done with the interview, the interviewer went out and then came back and tell me that they have no more position left for the men section. Instead they offer me a Men shoe commission job, which i told her i couldn't do commission.

Interviewed Jul 2011 in Burbank, CA (took a day)
I applied for the position online and took the personality test at the end of the application. I was emailed by the company to set-up an interview a few days later. The interview was pretty basic, asking why do you want to work for the company, to describe an example of great customer service that you provided to customers in the past, to describe how you would handle angry/disgruntled customers, etc. The interview lasted about 5 minutes and I was immediately hired on the on-call flex team. Be sure to dress in all black professional clothes because that is the expected uniform for all employees.
