I applied for a position posted on Workopolis. I emailed my resume and covering letter. Within one month, I was contacted by email to arrange an initial interview. I called the company and was scheduled for a face-to-face interview two days later. At the interview, there was the CEO of the company and the manager of the application scientists. They both went over a detailed job description with me and then the manager asked me specific questions about science and my resume. The CEO went over the company structure and asked me why I am leaving academia. They took me on a tour of the company and showed me a demo instrument that I will learn. All the while, they asked me questions about my scientific knowledge and background. After about 1 hour, the manager left, and the CEO and I returned to the interviewing room. He continued to ask me more general questions such as what are my strengths and weaknesses, what are my career goals. He then told me the salary for the position and said he would be in touch for a 2nd interview.
