Interviewed Dec 2010 in New Orleans, LA (took 5 days)
Applied online but was declined twice. I was called in by the Front Office Manager for a personal interview on the second application. Interview done by 3 Front Office Managers in separate days. The hiring process and communication with the 3rd party recruitment agency can be frustrating.
Negotiation Details
I didn't asked nor negotiated for my starting salary, out of respect for a company such as Marriott with its brand and caliber to be fair in this sense. I was told by one of the Managers that starting pay is at $11 per hour. Then an increase of $13 after the 3 months probation. $15 is the maximum increase and over than that would be for supervisory position. Later I would learn that the pay is fixed for $11.40 for a year (after the 3 months probation). Next increase is after your performance review which is after a year or 2. My advice to job seekers is to put in writing the offer that will be made during the interview process.
Other Details
I Applied Online and the interview consisted of a 1:1 Interview.

Interviewed Aug 2008 in Tucson, AZ (took a day)
My first contact with the company was a phone call asking for me to come in for an interview. two days after the phone call I was in the office with the front desk manager and his assitant. The both introduced themselves and broke the ice alittle bit. The generic questions had began. "Why do you want to work here? What are your strengths? How would you rate your reliability? What does team work mean to you? Give an example of a situation that you and a co-worker didn't get along? How was it resolved it resolved at all? Was there a time you disagreed with upper management?" etc..etc...
After about 40 minutes the interview was done, they took me down to HR to get a drug test paperwork. After that was established I already knew I was hired being that the company wouldn't pay for a drug test if they had no interest in me. Sure enough 3 days or so (after the drug test results) Marriott called and confirmed my employment! :)
