Interviewed Apr 2010 in Oceanside, CA (took 2+ weeks)
Currently, due to serious amounts of new applicants, interview one is a group interview where only the most energetic, personable, and intelligent applicants get pushed to the 2nd interview. Marriott jobs are all about customer service. If you can show you are skilled and that you will be friendly with the guests, your chances are higher. Experience is not as important as your willingness to go the extra step for the guests.
At the end of the interview, pay will be discussed. Salaries are not negotiable. Each job has its pay range, and unless you have vast experience in that same job, it is unlikely they will give you a higher rate than starting the starting pay range.

Negotiation Details
Salaries are not negotiable. Unless you are transferring and are already at a higher range you will likely be offered starting pay. FD is 10, NA is 11. Sales is 14. If you make silly salary requests your application will be thrown out. ie: Don't put your minimum wage that you will accept as 14 for a Front Desk job that a High School Grad could do.
Other Details
I Applied Online and the interview consisted of a 1:1 Interview.

Interviewed Apr 2011 (took 2+ weeks)
First I had to complete an online test to make sure I knew how to handle guests. I passed that test and was brought in for a 1:1 interview with the front desk manger. I was asked more detailed questions about how I have handled upset guests in the past. When you are asked these questions be as specific as possible about how you resolved the guest issue. You are graded on how you answer the question. After I spoke with the front office manager I met the assistant general manager and was asked how I handle down-time while working overnight.

Reason for Declining
The pay was below average for the area even with beneifits. I was told that most employees save their vacation time for when they are not able to get 40 hours. Why work in a hotel if you can't get time off to travel?

Both interviews were behavioral in nature. No real technical info for a customer service position.

Interviewed Jan 2007 in Arlington, VA (took a day)
Came in and they asked some general questions. Tell me a time when you had to complete a difficult task. What did you do? How will you react when you disagree with a manager? Are you available 24 hrs per day and be on call?
