Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Everett, MA May 2010 – Reviewed Apr 6, 2011
Interview Details – Was placed in the office through an internship program coordinated by the state department of health. I had a three month unpaid internship with the local health department. At the end of the internship period I gave a presentation at the State Department Of Health Headquarters as a culminating experience. I was then interviewed by HR and offered a position at the local city hall. From interview to offer was a matter of minutes.
Interview Question – Describe an event at which you had to make a quick and effective decision that affected the course of action of a project. Answer Question
Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Boston, MA Nov 2009 – Reviewed Jan 17, 2010
Interview Details –
Intial and secondary interview were pleasant; the working conditions were standard/the norm for State government in a public health setting.
Multiple exchanges with staff proved positive as well as having a through knowledge of the position posting and an anticipation of what/how I would apply my own experiences into the role should I be chosen.

Negotiation Details –
The negotiation phase requires patience as the dept does not and cannot provide a starting salary until after the chosen candidate finalist has filled out a good deal of paperwork, supplied credentials, been vetted and confirmed by the personell department. So, that said, if you are offered the job, you're technically only offered it as long as your credentials pan out, and then, and only then will you find out your offerings range.
My advice: have all credentials, certificates, etc on file and ready for immediate turn-around if you are chosen as a final candidate for this employer.
Accepted Offer – Reviewed Jan 3, 2013
Interview Details – Sort of a "back door" route; they recruited me. Multiple interviews, including a group interview.
Interview Question – None. Pretty standard, although they did want project samples. Answer Question
Negotiation Details – Flat offer; no negotiation
No Offer – Interviewed in Aug 2008 – Reviewed May 12, 2010
Interview Details – They asked very technical questions about my qualifications and classes that i've been taking. They were particularly interested in my project (as part of my graduation requirement, although it wasn't exactly a thesis project). They were friendly and professional. It would have been a very nice place to work for to gain experience as a junior person.
Interview Question – What are your strength and weaknesses? Answer Question
No Offer – Interviewed in Apr 2010 – Reviewed May 1, 2010
Interview Details – It takes months from the time of your application untill the actual interview when you interview with the state. They usually call you in for at least two inteviews- three if you apply for a management position. Interviews are conducted by a panel of four or more staff who work in the unit and a supervisor. Know the poplulation you will be working with, be prepared to wait several months for an interview and weeks later to get a response. Do not come in without a suit and in beat up sneakers or run over shoes ( yes, I have seen that). Look people in the eye, speak clearly and present what you know like you know it. In a lot of cases with the state they already have a candidate in mind and need to interview to say they has a selection. If that happens to you, use the opportunity to hone your interview skills. I can not say anything pleasant about the work culture or environment. The pay is decent, the benefits are good, and you get to leave the office AT the office....
Interview Question – How do you feel about peers doing this work? Referring to people who've been served by the agency, now coming to work at the agency Answer Question
