Marketing Leader at MasterCard

Accepted Offer – Reviewed Apr 29, 2013

Interview Details – Initial communication came from the HR recruiter. First there was a phone interview followed by 5 separate days on interviewing to meet no fewer than 2 people each time. Over all the process is slow and multiple followups will be necessary.

Interview Question – What do you think of the MasterCard brand and where do you see the next opportunity?   Answer Question

Negotiation Details – Like many companies, the process was rigid but in my time there I noticed the flexibility of the negotiation correlated to the level of difficulty in filling the position

Summer Intern at MasterCard

Accepted Offer – Interviewed in O'Fallon, MO Mar 2013 – Reviewed Apr 22, 2013

Interview Details – Applied through university recruiting and was contacted several weeks later by a recruiter. Recruiter set up a phone screen for a few days later. Phone screen was very basic and recruiter set up a final interview during call.

Final interview was a phone interview with the Senior Officer in the department I would be working for. During interview I was informed on the specifics of the position and learned more about MasterCard. Asked to go through my resume and was asked specific questions about resume.

Contacted two days later with an offer. Overall the interview process was very laid back and a positive experience.

Interview Question – Why do you want to work for MasterCard? - Tell me about yourself? Walk me through your resume - Tell me about a time when....?   Answer Question

Negotiation Details – No need to negotiate because offer was above expectations.

Intern at MasterCard

Accepted Offer – Interviewed in O'Fallon, MO Mar 2013 – Reviewed Apr 1, 2013

Interview Details – After submitting an application online I contacted a recruitment officer that was listed online and explained that I was applying for a summer internship position and attached my resume.

The officer was very quick about getting back to me, despite the fact that they were currently out of office. A phone interview was scheduled and consisted of mostly HR/screening questions. I walked through my resume and explained the material/information on it.

After that I was asked to travel to MasterCard Technologies HQ in O'Fallon, Missouri. Unfortunately, I was asked to provide my own transportation (which I had) but it was still somewhat aggravating. The in-person interview in O'Fallon was, again, more HR/screening questions and some technical questions.

After the interview, I was told I would be contacted in the next week with a decision. However, probably due to the fact that there were very few spaces left, I was contacted later that day with an offer.

Interview Question – There were really no difficult questions, mostly questions regarding my experience in coding and IT, as it was an internship/entry level position.   Answer Question

Negotiation Details – I was given little to no negotiation power. The only part I was able to influence was the timeline on when I would give a response to the offer.

Business Leader at MasterCard

Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Purchase, NY Mar 2011 – Reviewed Mar 15, 2013

Interview Details – All jobs are posted online. Headhunters are usually used for jobs as well.
Interviews are behaviorial and focus on skill set and past experience.
Good portion of jobs are fulfilled through external hires, especially when certain skills are sought.
Once you are short listed, the MasterCard recruiter generally schedules a screening interview to confirm fit and objectives. They also set salary expectations up front so that there are no suprises.
Assuming you meet the initial criteria, then there is a first round with the hiring manager - on the phone or in person if you are local.
Then there is a second/final round where you meet a broader set of people, 4-6. They generally narrow down to 2-3 candidates for a final round.
If selected, the recruiter will reach out to you with an offer and ask you to get back to them within 24 hours.

Interview Question – Questions are generally very tied to the specfic opportunity and focus on the skills and background required. They dont throw in brain teasers and unexpected questions.   Answer Question

Negotiation Details – They gave me an offer that was 10% higher that what we spoke about during the initial interview with the recruiter. They even covered a good portion of unvested stock from my previous employer as a sign-on. Didnt really give me anything to negotiate about.

Finance Intern at MasterCard

Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Purchase, NY Apr 2011 – Reviewed Sep 15, 2012

Interview Details – Studied abroad during application and interview process. Heard back in about one to two weeks for an interview. Was given a phone interview as an alternative instead since I could not physically be there for the in person interview. Only 1 round. Behavioral questions. General "Tell me about yourself" or "why do you want to work here" questions. Interviewed by HR who was nice. Interviewer hinted that I most likely would have gotten the job but needed to get back to me to be sure. Received the offer about 1 - 2 weeks later. Overall, positive interview experience. However, quite a bit of waiting for HR to respond. They may tell you they will get back to you by a certain date, but it will likely take longer and you may need to remind them.

Interview Question – Tell me about a time when you were in a group and there was an issue. Describe the problem and what actions you took, as well as the impact of your actions.   View Answer
