Interviewed Nov 2010 in El Segundo, CA (took 2 weeks)
The process was fairly average, telephone interview with HR recruiter then he sets up full interview with team. Spoke with 3 levels on the team including the department manager as well as cross teams you may be working with. Everything was straight forward and friendly.
Was told I was over qualified for the position I was applying for, specifically I had more experience than the manager of the team and their wouldn't be anything he could teach me. But I understood it was a step back for me to get into the company and learn a new industry and this was discussed upfront that I understood this yet they still used it as an excuse. I felt if it was a problem they shouldn't
T have never brought me in for that position in the first place.

Interviewed Nov 2010 in El Segundo, CA (took 2 weeks)
I applied to an add the Design Manager Posted. About three weeks later I got an e-mail saying they would like me to come in for a 1 on 1 interview with a selection of Design Managers and a few designers. A week later they called for more information for a background check. I got the job.

Interviewed Jan 2011 in East Aurora, NY (took 3 months)
I was contacted 4 weeks after I applied online and given an interview date a month and half after my phone conversation. Once I had my interview - which was with an HR representative and 4 managers, I was offered the position 4 days later. All for an intern position!

Interviewed Jan 2010 in El Segundo, CA (took a day)
The university recruiters at Mattel are very professional and wonderful to work with. They were very timely with their communications and relatively on-time with their interview. I met with four people that day, in separate one-on-one interviews. I was asked very typical questions, mostly behavioral. You should definitely have a strong understanding if the company and especially its culture and how you would fit in with it. Try to find out what they're looking for in that particular position and make sure you elaborate on what skills/personality traits you have to fit in it.

Interviewed Feb 2010 in New York, NY (took 5 weeks)
The office is very small - 100/200 people max. It's a small company within a mega corporate behemoth. I interviewed with the entire marketing management teams because it's small and I would ultimately be working with everyone. Standard questions, nothing out of the ordinary. They in no way tried to trick me or tested me. If they already decided they liked me, they stopped asking questions and we started talking about other things (kids, tv shows, partners etc.). I would say this was very relaxed and they make you feel very comfortable.

Interviewed Jun 2010 in El Segundo, CA (took 2 days)
Overall Mattel seemed like a great company to work for since it was in Fortunes Top 100 Companies to Work For b/c of their tuition reimbursement programs, baby sitting program, etc. But once I walked through the door I just was not comfortable. I did not feel welcomed by the first person that interviewed me. He was a tech guy and was sizing me up which I did not appreciate. Also, there were two people that were supposed to interview me that did not show up to work on that day which was a bit unprofessional. Overall, I only got good vibes from one VP in HR but I did not come there to work for her so overall it did not work out. I do not think that the HR person that screened me did a good job b/c it was clear to me as soon as the first guy interviewed me that it was not a good fit.

Interviewed May 2009 (took a day)
Roughly 6 (1:1) interviews. Took the entire day. Interviewers that were from the department would ask skill related questions. Some of the interviewers were more friendly, others were very cold.
