Interviewed Feb 2012 (took a day)
The interview was great. I had met many of my interviewers at business events before the formal interview and so I was excited about the opportunity. However, the interview turned negative when I received no reply by email or over the phone afterwards. While this is typical, it was particularly frustrating because even after calling and leaving messages with the interviewers, I was granted no response.
I was promised reimbursement for my travel expenses on two separate occasions by two separate HR Reps and I never received it (because I could never get a hold of them!)

Interviewed May 2012 (took 3 days)
Interview consisted of two associates from the firm. Questions that were asked: What do you know about the Pathways Program, tell me about yourself and 1 situational/behavioral question. Both interviewers were professional and pleasant. The whole process was not bad at all. It was an opportunity to connect with the firm/employees and see if it would be a good fit for both parties.

Interviewed May 2012 in Charlotte, NC (took 3 weeks)
Met with a senior manager through a recruiting event and had an informal interview on site (golf course). Received an email a few days later from the regional HR recruiter extending an office visit. The office visit consisted of two 45 minute one-on-one interviews with managers from the consulting practice. There were no behavioral questions or anything drawing too much stress, more of a relaxed conversation trying to get a feel for the job and the interviewer trying to get a feel for your interests and goals.

Reason for Declining

Interviewed Mar 2012 (took a day)
Had a 30 minute phone interview. Lady who was interviewing me was very friendly and almost made it seem informal. Asked a few behavioral questions, mostly about how I would have handled something differently in my past work experiences. Asked why I chose McGladrey over some of the other public accounting firms.

Interviewed Feb 2012 in Champaign, IL (took a day)
The recruiter started off by asking me what question I have for him, which was quite different from other interviews. He basically went over a few behavioral questions on the list and talked a lot on how the internship would be different from the one in Chicago because of the different clients they were exposed to. Overall the interview was easy.

Interviewed Mar 2012 (took 4+ weeks)
Applies online and through campus career website, but what helped the most was giving them my resume at career fair. Process consisted of 45 minute interview at university- I was asked a lot about my resume, but most important part of the interview are the questions that I asked. I was notified the next week I had been accepted for the 2nd round Office Interviews. Office Interview consisted of 2- 45 minute 1 on 1 interviews with a partner and a director. They asked me very general questions about myself/resume, team work experience, "Why M&P?", "Why not big4?". Their questions lasted 5-10 mins. The rest of the time was for me to ask questions. The questions you ask are the most important part of the interview.

Interviewed Oct 2011 (took 2+ weeks)
I first spoke with the company at an accounting job fair at my university. I then received notification that I would be granted a first interview. There was a social event with McGladrey employees and all the interviewers and interviewees the night before the interview. After the interview, I was notified that I would have a second interview.

Interviewed Mar 2012 in Miami, FL (took 5 weeks)
Met the firm at a career fair at University. This was most important for me, as it was my "first impression" of them. Although firm associates may act short/uninterested they are paying attention and want candidates that seem interested and eager to learn, not just someone "dropping off their resume". I followed through and applied for an interview through Career Services. The on campus interview was held 1 on 1 with a manager and consisted of behavioral questions and your experiences. 2 weeks later, I received an email asking me to come in for an office visit. The office visit was very relaxed and I did not feel as nervous as I had with other firms. I interviewed with 2 directors and 1 manager. They touched on my resume but were more interested in chatting and getting a sense of my personality. That night, we were invited for a social at a restaurant downtown and were able to meet more associates and managers (including managing partner), and met the other potential job candidates. I focused on networking and socializing with the firms associates who were surprisingly very open and eager to chat. Received a phone call 2 days later with the offer.

Negotiation Details
Accepted the initial offer, as it was market rate, and did not expect firm to negotiate higher, especially for entry level position. Do your research, for me, it was more important to "get my foot in the door" than potentially ruin the experience by asking for 2-3K more and being turned down. The offer was adequate for entry level.

I got the interview through a College or University and the interview consisted of a 1:1 Interview, a Presentation and a Background Check.

Interviewed Mar 2012 in Davenport, IA (took 2 weeks)
I had an on campus interview with an HR woman. She was nice but all she did was go through a list of questions. I left thinking I was not going to get a second interview, but about 5 days later I received a call asking me to come in for an office interview. I went and there were 13 of us. I had two interviews with a Tax Partner and a Tax Manager. Both interviews were not at all behavioral and just chit chatting, but make sure you get in your experiences and interest in McGladrey. After that it was a dinner with a lot of the tax employees. Make sure you speak to as many as you can.
