Business Analyst Interview

I applied online and the process took 2 months - interviewed at McKinsey & Company in January 2014.

Interview Details – Best interview process I ever had. People were very nice, especially Emilie Noel from HR. Learned a lot in the process, and the overall experience was very good.

Interview Question – Cases: Private bank growth, Indonesian manufacturer fighting shrinking MS, developing contraception in Africa, Developing education in Thailand.   Answer Question

Junior Consultant Interview

I applied through an employee referral and the process took 1 week - interviewed at McKinsey & Company in June 2012.

Interview Details – Called about a first round interview at the Paris office. Had a week to prepare.

First step was a multiple choice exam (50 mins). Harder than the practice questions online. Roughly 27 questions. You don't need to get them all right---from what I've heard from friends at McK there has only been one person in the history of the exam that has ever answered them all correctly.

Next was a one-on-one case interview.

Interview Question – Standard profitability question. Your client is a CFO for a XYZ company in the UK. The CEO wants to take the company public but says that the CFO's business plan isn't profitable enough. You have 6 weeks to boost profit from 5% to 15%. Please advise.   View Answer

Associate Interview

I applied through college or university and interviewed at McKinsey & Company.

Interview Details – 1st Round Interviews: two 45min sessions. Each session included (i) Fit and (ii) Case.

1st Session: Regarding the fit, my interviewer asked me for a specific experience in my CV. The challenge was to use that story to transmit the values McKinsey is looking for. The case was a specific case regarding a Pharma company.

2nd Session: Same as with the first interviewer. This time they also used a Pharma case, but there were no numbers. It was all conceptual.

Interview Question – Case: Big pharma company wants to buy a smaller pharma company. Assess the strategic fit.   Answer Question

I applied online and the process took 2 months - interviewed at McKinsey & Company in January 2013.

Interview Details – 1st round: 1x45 min interview + 70 min Problem Solving Test
2nd round: 3x45 min interview
That was for an internship (for a fulll time position there is one more interview round).
Interview = Experience + case solving + your questions about the firm
At McK, they always ask for a specific accomplishment where you demonstrated your leadership skills, so be prepared with some personal stories and be ready to tell them in a structured way and answer challenging questions.

Interview Question – The quality you do not have yet for consulting.   Answer Question

Reason for Declining – Accepted another offer

I applied through an employee referral and the process took 1 week - interviewed at McKinsey & Company in September 2011.

Interview Details – 1st round:
1 multiple-choice test - no stress for that, even if you dont finish it, it s pretty easy
2 face-to-face interviews with fit questions + case studies - note that already at this stage people were not that welcoming and cases were pretty challenging

2nd round:
3 more face-to-face interviews & case studies - same level of difficulty as in the first round

Interview Question – France's favourite: client is a ticket restaurant company with declining profits, please advise.   View Answer

Reason for Declining – i didn't like the majoirty of the people I met
Everybody seemed so arrogant and unpleasant, that I accepted the offer from Bain, which is notorious to have a totally different culture
