First round interview with McK in Germany. Overall very pleasant and enjoyable experience with some things to pay attention to:
1.) Do not make math mistakes, they will cost you even if you can convey that you are good at math and they were just bad luck. It's better to take an extra 5 sec than to mess up a calculation
2.) Choose your answers to the FIT questions carefully...you are expected to dazzle and shouldn't just be giving an average answers.
3.) On the case, first brainstorm and list a whole mess of ideas that come to mind, then dig deeper and explain the individual branches of your issue tree in detail.

Personal Assistant to the Office Services Supervisor Interview

I applied through an employee referral. The process took a day - interviewed at McKinsey & Company.

    Interview Details

The interview was done over the telephone. I was referred by a former employee. This was a temporary job as summer vacation replacement. For that job they were more or less willing to accept whoever came recommended. Paperwork was only done on the first working day. This left some ambiguities about the contract terms, for example with regard to reimbursement of travel expenses to and from work.

I applied online. The process took a day - interviewed at McKinsey & Company in January 2011.

    Interview Details

I've applied online for an internship and was contacted after a few weeks to arrange for an onsite interview day.
They offer you to talk to a consultant on the phone before the actual interview to answer any questions upfront. Usually you also do a case study on the phone with the consultant.

The interview day consists of 2 + 1 interviews (1 hour) with consultants. After the first two interviews, some applicants are already weeded out and sent home.

The first two interview is are equally split between CV questions and a case study. The third interview deals with a single case study throughout.

    Interview Questions
    • Practice case studies beforehand and have fun during the case studies to keep an open head. Make sure to practice mental arithmetics as well.   Answer Question

    - Preparation call with a consultant 1 - 2 weeks before the interview
    - Dinner on the evening before in a relaxed atmosphere
    - Two interviews in the morning, then first feedback and eventually two more interviews in the afternoon. Each interview lasted about an hour with a few questions about the CV and particular "experiences", then a case study.
    - The interview was for a position in the Business Technology Office, but the cases in the interview were not specific to IT-/data issues.
    - No analytical test (for BTO) and only few calculations.

    Interview Questions
    • Interviewer-led case interview: Hardest part was to understand which directions and questions the interviewer was aiming at. This requires both careful listening and some composure (especially if some misunderstanding has happened).   Answer Question

I applied online. The process took 3 months - interviewed at McKinsey & Company.

    Interview Details

The interview process was very organized. So you get to choose a date and city in your country for an assessment centre. When you get there, there are about 10 candidates. The interview is divided into 4 sections. 3 one on one interviews and one analytical test. Every interview will be 30 minutes about your CV and 30 minutes for a case study. Case studies can be anything really, so you really need to know your calculations, cause thats what they really want to see. The CV part consists of a situation in your life where you proved something and you have to elaborate quite a lot, which can get a bit uncomfortable, cause they ask you who said what when and how did somebody react.

    Interview Questions
    • Come up with a certain situation in my life and explain everything in a way that shows that I am suitable for the position. Analyze mathematical tables within 1,2 minutes and calculate things in front of the interviewer.   Answer Question
