I applied online and the process took 6 weeks - interviewed at McKinsey & Company.

Interview Details – The whole process is challenging as you would expect:
- Starts with a math test. It is as difficult or perhaps more than the numerical bit from the GMAT
- 2-3 rounds of 2-3 interviews
- Each interview has a case and a personal component.

Interview Question – Perhaps the most difficult bit is the numerical exam at the beginning. Make sure you practice just to avoid typical errors. Also be strategic, if a question is to difficult dont spend too much time in it (as in the GMAT) given that the test is timed.   Answer Question

I applied online and the process took 1 week - interviewed at McKinsey & Company in May 2014.

Interview Details – Submitted my profile in Mckinsey's website and was called for the PST test two days later - Unfortunately I did not pass the PST; make sure you practice enough business cases and GRE/GMAT questions before applying to Mckinsey, I only had 2-3 days to prepare.

Interview Question – The PST had three business cases, with a total of 26 questions, still for 75 minutes it was demanding enough to put you under pressure.   Answer Question

London, England (UK)

I applied through college or university and the process took 6 months - interviewed at McKinsey & Company in February 2014.

Interview Details – Target school APD (Advanced Professional Degree) BTO (Business Technology Office) for London office. Problem solving test was waived, as I'd taken it previously. 1st round interview was great, well organized and very enjoyable. My 2nd round interview was botched. I was handed off to three different recruiters, with long (1 month+) delays. Took continual prompting and asking a friend in another office to help out to finish the process. The BTO intake seems disorganized compared to the standard batch-day process. 20/20 hindsight, I'd apply as a generalist consultant.

Interview Question – Standard McKinsey process. The London-specific 'role-play' scenario was the only unusual bit.   View Answer

I applied online and the process took 2 weeks - interviewed at McKinsey & Company in October 2013.

Interview Details – Great communication throughout the hiring and interview process. Standard interviews with personal fit questions followed by the case study. Upon rejection, got genuinely helpful feedback from the interviewers as areas (particularly in the case study!) that I could improve on.

Interview Question – Tell me about a time you had to convince someone of something, and it was truely challenging. Tell me about a time you had to resolve internal problems in a team you were leading.   Answer Question

I applied through an employee referral and interviewed at McKinsey & Company.

Interview Details – 3 rounds - 1st round is a numeracy test (30mins) and the problem solving test (60 mins), 2nd round is 2 1-hour interviews with consultants, 3rd round is 3 1-hour interviews with higher level consultants. Just passed the 1st round. If you are good in maths, had a business subject in school or in university, it is easy. If not, it's quite difficult. The main problem is TIME.

Interview Question – No questions so far. Only the written test.   Answer Question

Interviewed at McKinsey & Company

Interview Details – Submitted CV online. Invited to take Problem Solving Test - similar to online examples. Invited to a case workshop to discuss interview format/case studies and then first round interview. First interviewer was not very friendly, second one was. Made some clumsy math mistakes, but perhaps was cut some slack since I don't have a math-oriented background. Interviews followed exact personal experience-case study-questions format as expected. Then invited to final round interview - overnight hotel stay. Dinner the night before with current BAs and JAs, 3 interviews the next day. I thought 2 went really well, 1 not quite as well. Got a call a few days later and didn't get an offer.

Interview Question – Case study about an industry I wasn't familiar with.   Answer Question

I applied online - interviewed at McKinsey & Company in November 2012.

Interview Details – Two consecutive interviews, 1 hour each. Each interview started off with a personal experience question (30 min) and followed with a case interview (30 min). The personal experience questions are very detailed. They dig deep into the events to make sure they really understand what happened and what your actions were in the situation. The case interviews given were about the solar energy business and the automotive industry. Both were very interesting to solve.
