Interviewed Mar 2009 in Charleston, SC (took a day)
Submitted my application from the HR website page and was called in for an interview. There were a lot of questions asked of me such as why I want this position, why would I be a good candidate and to describe how I handled an interaction with an angry customer, etc. The hiring manager was kind and he had a couple of his employees sit in for the interview. I was also asked if I had any questions of them which I did.

Interviewed Feb 2010 in Charleston, SC (took 3 days)
For an Administrative Coordinator position, I had to go back and forth three times! The first time I met with a 5 person panel. The second time I met with the panel from the first day and another three person panel. Then the third time I had to return and meet with another three person panel and finally got to meet the person I'd be working for. Talk about overkill with the interviewing. You also had to round up letters of reference and then if you got past that point they still called your references! It was ridiculous. I wasn't applying for a CEO position. It seemed like a nice place to work and a good position but I started to feel like I had to be God to get it! All of the questions were behavioral questions. If you go on the MUSC website's HR section you'll find the questions asked. Just because they call your references doesn't mean anything. Come to find out they've also called a bunch of other people's references as well. I thought employers only called the references of the person selected for hire but MUSC changed that perception. Even my friend in Human Resources said you should only check the references of the candidate selected.

Interviewed Sep 2009 in Charleston, SC (took 3 weeks)
They had nearly 80 resume submitted for the position, so they did phone interviews to narrow the field to 5 candidates. Those 5 were then invited for 1 on 1 interviews with the department manager, and then a group interview with the team. I think the interview itself went well, but my long term goals may have been in conflict with the needs of the department.
I was told the job was quite demanding, and would require wearing many hats. I was told during my phone interview with the manager that the job would pay $17 an hour, but three weeks later, when I interviewed, she told me the compensation would be $10-$11 an hour, depending upon experience. Yikes! Apparently, with so many applicants they felt they could fill the position for much less money.

MUSC likes to call their interviewing process "Behavioral Interviews" but really they just ask you the same questions over and over. There is no creativity in the interview and all of the people interviewing you have to ask the same questions as everyone else. There were plenty of times that I could tell the individuals wanted to veer away from the questions, but couldn't due to the structure.

Interviewed May 2007 (took 1+ week)
I originally interviewed with one person for a mid-level marketing position. I was called back in for a second interview with a "panel" of people I would be working with. About mid-way through the process, I realized that the position they were describing was not the one I had originally interviewed for. This was a complete waste of everyone's time and made me wonder about the management of the department.
