When you go to interveiw for a promotion or a differnt job with in the company, they already have who they will give the job to. They only do the interveiws as a farce.

There was no raise in pay but about 8 pages worth of fines that they will take from your paychecks and managers bonus.

I walked in filled out an application and they reviewed it right there on the spot. I sat down with the HR coordinator and was asked the normal questions, really easy. After that I went to GM and had a talk with him, he reviewed my application and after some talking he hired me.

Went into store to fill out job application. Called next day for job applying for to set up interview. Interview took place in store vending machine area, took all of 10 min tops. Easy numbers test of basic math skills with just a one on one interview with Assistant Manager. Just asked if had transportation and availability.

Very basic interview with HR manager, the usual what are your best traits and worst traits. How well do you work within a team, etc. A drug test at the hospital followed as well as some basic tests. Nothing to crazy just be sure to do a quick refresher on basic interview questions.

Sat down 1:1 with the HR director, she asked me some past work experience questions and if I was knowledgable about any departments that they had in the store. Then I interviewed was interviewed by a department manager the same day about the same questions.

It appears that the basic qualification for working at Menards is that you pass the drug test and that you have a easy going, laid back personality. I met with the HR coordinator and we discussed the position for about 15 minutes. I then interviewed by the Manager of the department I was applying for. We talked for about a half hour mostly about the department and why I wanted to work there. (OK, he talked, I listened, mostly about how wonderfully run the department was but that's OK.) It was a laid back interview.
The store culture is a throw back - very much based on the white male being in charge. Women must be one of the "boys" and are tolerated in a kindly, fatherly way.
