Interviewed Mar 2011 (took 3 weeks)
Interviews were by phone for initial screening, then local in Houston with two partners, then on to NYC for next round, including intelligence testing and interview in Houston by outside assessment group. The HR partner in Houston suddenly left the firm as I was moving through the process which made it rather difficult for Mercer to manage the process effectively. Would recommend anyone making it to the final rounds to very prepared for the intelligence tests as they are crucial for final consideration.

Interviewed Apr 2010 in Melbourne (Australia) (took 3 months)
One of the most frustrating processes I have been through. 7 meetings all up and they made the decision based on a lack of "Project management" experience. Something they knew at the beginning. The odd thing was that the interviewers kept telling me who long and drawn out the process at Mercer was. Well.... if you know it's an issue, do something about it!

Interviewed Apr 2011 in Washington, DC (took 2 days)
I had my first round on campus with only 1 person. I was asked to walk through my resume, how I thought the health care bill will affect employers, why Mercer, why consulting, what I thought consulting was about, team work, biggest challenge etc.
I was notified of my second round much much later, but it was 1 day about 2.5 hours with 6 people, two at a time. I was asked about my biggest challenge, a time that I failed, missed a deadline, examples of teamwork, etc. Really great people!
No cases or problems!

Interviewed Nov 2009 in Louisville, KY (took a day)
The whole process started with an email extending an invitation to an interview day. After I accepted I was given accommodation information. This whole deal was also sent out to probably twenty other candidates that all came to the same super interview day. The events started with a dinner the night before with all the other candidates and some of Mercer's employees. The following day was filled with four 1:1 interviews and the whole process ended with a group tour of Louisville. This part was actually nice that way if you get the job you kind of get an idea of the city before you make the decision. The interview itself was conducted very well with your typical questions. My only complaint was it took a couple months for them to make a hiring decision when they told us it would only take a couple weeks.

Interviewed Feb 2011 in Los Angeles, CA (took 2 days)
It was a very relaxed first round interview in a casual setting. More of a conversation more than an interview. Just discussed past experience and knowledge about Mercer in the Human Resource industry- nothing scary. Interviewer even gave suggestions for second round interviews.

Interviewed Feb 2011 in San Francisco, CA (took a day)
Phone (30 min) inc. basic behavioral questions that aims to understand what type of person you are & how well you can communicate. "Walk me through your resume" so be concise and be prepared to tell them what you did and the results you achieved.
Final In-Person: Spoke w/5 people who did 1:1 with me. Great office culture & team environment. Each interviewer comes to you versus you having to go around from person to person. Be prepared for a case study on the company's line of work, strategy case study and emphasize WHY you want to work for Mercer (this came up over & over again). Overall, really intelligent group of people who want to make sure you want MMC and aren't considering them as 2nd choice. Ask smart questions, so be sure to read their published books.
