Meredith Corporation Digital Sales Manager Interview

Interviewed Jan 2011 in Phoenix, AZ (took a day)

I was interviewed by a number of managers in sales as well as the General Manager.

Each 1:1 consisted of questions from a Meredith hiring manual and there were several repeating questions. Many questions pertained to customer service deals and their desired and undesired outcomes. It didn't seem like there was a wrong answer and everyone took lot's of notes regarding my answers. Then each asked me some of their own questions and we had more of a bantering and suggestive conversation. Most acted encouraging as if they wanted to hire me or at least go-to-bat for me when they met as a committee.

One of the Manager's explained how his sales team only gives manager's one-chance and then they reject all future suggestions and policy from the new manager. He did this in a very 'scolding' kind of way. It was weird. To lighten things up, I explained in third-person who I would present myself, my ideas and tactics. I believe my explanation worked, yet I didn't receive an offer so I'm not sure.

Other than the one manager, they were complimentary, encouraging and quite I am shocked to not have gotten the job.

It seems like getting a job with this company may be like winning American Idol, each week I was told how many candidates there were and weather or not I made it through. I did make it to the semi's.

Meredith is a great company -- still trying other locations for a similar position!
