Financial Advisor Intern at Merrill Lynch

Accepted Offer – Reviewed Mar 11, 2013

Interview Details – I was looking for an internship within the financial industry and had a contact within Merrill Lynch. I emailed and asked whether or not any intern positions were open. The contact responded and notified me that a Financial Advisor was looking for intern so he put me in contact with that individual. Shortly thereafter, I came in for the interview which was very casual and easy going. No difficult questions or anything. The FA told me what I would be doing and if I was good with public speaking, planning, organization, had a basic understanding of finance etc, to which i demonstrated my knowledge in each. At the end of the interview I was offered the position.

Financial Solutions Advisor at Merrill Lynch

Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Hopewell, NJ Jan 2010 – Reviewed Mar 9, 2013

Interview Details – Interview is behavioral; expect a rudimentary role-play.
You'll do best if you have some idea how to make a recommendation to a client, even if you're not a pro.
Frankly, if you can talk to people you'll be ok. If you try and sound like some guru on CNBC you'll probably mess it up- just don't.

Interview Question – A client demands to execute a trade that is not in line with his risk tolerance- how do you handle it?   View Answer

Negotiation Details – No negotiation- it's a straight base + incentives deal.
