Interviewed Sep 2010 in Bridgewater, NJ (took 1 week)
The HR calls for an initial interview followed by phone interview with hiring manager. The questions are around previous job experience and use of Statistics.
I was invited for an in person interview, and there were four team members that individually interviewed me.
The interviewers were open & nice.
I was offered a job the next day, and I accepted.

Interviewed Apr 2010 in Somerset, NJ (took 2 days)
I was a consultant for over a year, then referred by an employee to come on full time. The process was very structured but comfortable and transparent. I appreciate the fact that they interviewed others and came back to me, it assured me that the process was fair. I interviewed with my direct leader, 2 team mates and VP. So very through and informative yet comfortable.

Interviewed Jun 2011 in Somerset, NJ (took 3 weeks)
I was contacted by HR representative that scheduled a phone interview. This was a 10 minute discussion to get a general idea of my qualifications and salary requirements. She also discussed the process steps for being hired.
Within the day, she contacted me to let me know that the Application Director was interested in setting up a phone interview. A few days later, i had a 30 minute phone interview with the director of the group. This was a more detailed discussion of my experience. Asked some more specific questions as to my approach in doing my job. At the end of the conversation, he stated that he would be interested in bringing me in for an interview with his group.
One day later, I was contacted by HR to set a specific date and time. The following week, I went in to the Somerset campus for an interview. Met with 2 application managers for an hour and then the 2 directors for an hour. Pretty casual and laid back discussion. really asked questions that allowed you to talk about your experience. if you know your job, this is a pretty easy conversation. I felt it was a good interview and the people were friendly.
Within an hour after I left, I was called by the director with a job offer.
The whole process took 3 weeks because once I accepted, the background check and drug test are still required. Background check takes about 2 weeks. No formal offer letter is sent until all checks are completed and passed.
I spoke with director about work flexibility due to my family responsibilities - he was very open to work flexibility. I heard this from my friend who also works here but in a different group.

Negotiation Details
I tried to negotiate vacation - starting vaction is 3 weeks but I had 4 weeks at my previous job. But this is not flexible. Director said they are flexible with work from home and taking time off, so that he would work with me if I really needed time off. Salary offered was about 13% more than I was making at my previous job, so I thought this was very fair. I did not attempt to negotiate anything else.
When considering a job offer, besides salary ( which is important), also need to consider commuting costs, and work flexibility. When I took these into account for me, this was a great opportunity. My previous employer was not flexible at all.
Other Details
I got the interview through an Employee Referral and the interview consisted of a Phone Interview, a 1:1 Interview, a Group/Panel Interview, a Drug Test and a Background Check.

Interviewed Jan 2011 in Somerset, NJ (took 1 week)
Sent in resume and application in late December for a Marketing Consultant position for which the description was an excellent match for my skill set.
Heard back from Metlife recruiter in a couple of days. Asked some basic questions and indicated that he would forward my resume to hiring manager. Heard back within the hour and had interview scheduled for following week.
Met with hiring manager in Somerset, NJ. Super nice and bright woman. As she went through job responsibilities and necessary skills, it became even more apparent how good the fit was. I had basically used all the same technology and management practice in my previous position, and would literally be able to walk in on day one and do the job.
Left after an hour and met with current person doing the job, (moving on due to promotion). Felt the interview went very well.
Reached out to the recruiter for feedback after a few days, and was told that they had made a choice to go with someone else. Very frustrating as it appeared that this decision was already made and I may have been brought in to fulfill some quota. Very disappointing outcome. It would appear to me that a large organization such as Metlife, would do a better job and not waste people's time especially in this job market , where I could have been continuing my job search for a job that was actually available.

Received and Declined Offer

Interviewed Feb 2011 in Morristown, NJ (took 2 weeks)
They outsource HR hiring function. One HR in FL messed up my schedules and interview locations. The other HR in NYC didn't show up to work in the morning or return phone calls.
The first interview with 4 people was scheduled in a moring right after a snow storm. 3 interviewers didn't show up. However, HR had the only one interviewer show up fo 9:00am but told me to show up at 11:00 am.
Since I didn't meet other interviewers, hence, a 2nd interview was scheduled. However, the location was wrong. I was told to go to nYC while the location was in NJ, therefore reschedule again.
Interview itself was ok and the hiring team were friendly - They let me walk them through my resume didn't ask me many questions.
Interview Questions
Reason for Declining
Lower pay - they were only willing to offer me a job with 18K pay cut and downgrading title. They know how to take advantage of the bad economy. The HR in NYC told me how bad the economy is and the pay cut is reasonable and they will need to train me about investment even no one in that group has investment background. He also suggested me to accept it and wait for economy getting better and look for other opportunities. He told me to think about it during the weekend and call him on Monday.
When I called him, he denied there's an offer existed and told me teh hiring management was not comfortable that i am taking a big paycut.
Poor benefits - need to work for 5 years in order to get that 4% company match in 401K (most companies in NJ only require 2 - 3 years). Also, no company match in the first year.
Claim flexible work schedule - the truth is it depends on your work load, function and your supervisor.

Interviewed Feb 2011 in New York, NY (took a day)
I had 5 scheduled interviews in a morning/afternoon session and one the interviews was to a panel. Everyone was very nice and it was more of a get to know you session, not many behavioral questions, and not many technical questions. I did need to speak to my resume and really understand the role to which I was applying. Understand the business model-it is an insurance company.

Interviewed Jan 2008 in New York, NY (took a day)
I interviewed with three attorneys about half an hour each person. Everyone was extremely friendly. They mainly asked about the experiences I had written about in my resume. They asked about my writing sample. They liked questions about the industry their company is in. Great company to work for.

Interviewed May 2008 in New York, NY (took a day)
I was contacted by a MetLife recruiter and offered to come to the office for the interview. I was given an hour long presentation about the company and its benefits, instructed about the number of exams one needs to take to become qualified for the position within the insurance industry and given an overview about the compensation structure. After that I was given a personality test, which consisted about 40 questions.
