Interviewed Oct 2010 in Vancouver, BC (Canada) (took a day)
online test that im sure was longer than any SAT test. Absolutely pointless, had no bearing on the interview what so ever. its like they wanted to see if i was willing to waste my time in order to be considered for the job

Interviewed Feb 2012 in Davenport, FL (took 1 week)
I applied online for a sales associate position. Within a week I got a call back for an opening in their custom framing department. I said I had no experience but I was interested. She set up an interview to meet. This was a Friday and the interview was scheduled for Monday. This was a little disappointing as I really needed a job, the sooner the better.
I arrived approx. 10 minutes early and was told to walk around until I was paged over the intercom. I wasn't left waiting long. I was called back at approx. 3pm. She was very friendly and easy to talk to. I filled out a tax credit assessment online and then spoke to her about my employment history as she made notes on my application.
She then told me about what was going on in the store (the company is undergoing a revamp) and what to expect from the department and how the whole framing process works.
I accepted a part time job and also ended up interviewing for and am in the running for a Customer Service Management position.
She told me she had to run a background check and would call me in a few days, possibly even tomorrow. Mi basically got the job because I know I'll have no problem passing the background check.

I went to bring in a resume to the manger, he informed me that i would have to apply online. So I applied online, and a week after got a call for an interview. During the interview i was just asked basic questions such as, Where are things in the store, and what kind of art background am i taking into Michaels. And I was actually hired on the spot.

Interviewed Oct 2011 (took 1 week)
I applied online and got a call back in about a week. I missed the initial phone call and called back about 45 minutes later, the woman on the phone told me the person I was looking for had just left and gave me his hours for the following day. I called back the next morning and we scheduled an interview for the following friday (3 days later). He told me that his interviews typically last around 30 minutes and there were other people who would be interviewed that day as well. I arrived for my interview about 10-12 minutes early and asked an employee to point me in the right direction; she introduced me to the person who was going to interview me and showed me the room where the interviews are conducted. When I met the interviewer and he told me he was running a little behind and had one person who was to be interviewed before me. I walked around the store for a little while, maybe a half hour (or maybe a little less, it didn't seem to take very long) before my name was called over the intercom and I proceeded to the room.
The interviewer was very nice and easy to talk to and the interview itself was more of a conversation than an actual interview, but he still asked some of the typical questions. Overall I think it went very well and although I didn't get a job offer yet (this just happened earlier today) he said I was a perfect fit and he was looking forward to working with me. He said to expect a call within the next 3 days, if not later that night.
Details / Advice:
I have never had a job before, in fact I've never even been called for an interview. If you are reading these reviews and feel nervous, don't be! Just be confident, and put emphasis on your good qualities. It would help to be a creative person, in fact I was told that one of the biggest reasons why I was called in the first place was that I had put that I liked to knit / crochet / sew / draw on my application. Another big thing is a willingness to learn, make sure that you tell them that during your interview. Also research the company and prepare responses to some basic interview questions.
During the interview when I mentioned certain things the interviewer would say things like, "I'm so glad you mentioned that," "That's a really good trait to have," etc.. Here are some of the things that I remember getting me "bonus points":
-Being crafty. (knitting, crocheting, sewing, drawing, painting, scrapbooking, making jewelry) If there are crafts that you enjoy doing, tell them that!
-Creativity.
-Willingness to learn. Really make sure to mention this, especially if you don't have any work history.
-Ability to multitask.
-Being flexible. Both in what hours / days you can work and which positions you are willing to take.
-Enthusiasm. This is mostly portrayed in your tone of voice (it helps if you smile while talking :D)
-Being polite.
-Being confident.
-A genuine interest in the job and store.
-Basic knowledge of products / services the store offers.
That's all I can really remember, but all in all it was a great experience and all the employees I talked to were very nice and seemed to be happy with their jobs. I'm cautiously optimistic about getting the job, and I hope my experience can help someone out there, good luck!! :D
*Update* I got a call back the day after my interview at around 5:00 pm with a job offer. My first day was the following monday, along with 7 other new hires.

Interviewed Sep 2011 in Hawthorne, CA (took a day)
I applied online for Replinishment Associate, but ended up getting hired for Sales/Cashier. I got a call from them a week after I applied and was asked a couple of questions over the phone and then told to come in for an interview a couple days later. It was a group interview with about 10 other people and we were interviewed by the manager and assistant manager. The interview took an hour and then I was told right after the interview that I was hired and was told what I'd be making. The orientation was a week later and that took about 3 hours.

Interviewed Mar 2011 in Dallas, TX (took 2 days)
The online application included a type of timed IQ test, and a personality test that was designed to determine if you would be an honest employee. I thought the online application was repetitive and overly lengthy.
I was called the next evening to set up an interview at a local store at 10am on Saturday morning.
I showed up about five minutes early, and was told to wait with another woman who also had an interview for the same position at the same time I did. We waited until 10:15 when the assistant store manager came in, explaining he was late and stressed, and took us to an other room in the back to wait even longer before starting the interview.
Finally, 45 minutes after the scheduled interview time, he came back in and gave the other woman paperwork to fill out so she can "get started as soon as possible," and began to explain to me that the position I was considered for was a 5hr per/week warehouse unloading job. I was confused, since I had applied for Sales Associate, and that's what I thought I was interviewing for. I told him that I needed more hours to make ends meet, and that I had understood they were looking for someone on the floor, not the warehouse. He said, "maybe we can find some time for you to be trained to work on the floor too..." Yeah, right.
But, I was hard up for a paycheck so I followed through, and went to the office with him to "complete a missing part of my application." The office was very messy and he couldn't find my paper print-out application. So he attempted to pull it up from their database. He couldn't work his own company's database to find my application. Even though I had never seen their database before, I tried to give him hints over his shoulder, since the database was pretty simple. I found my name on the screen, and filled out a few more questions, which he accidentally deleted, trying to save it. After 20 minutes of total frustration, I had taken over the computer (since he couldn't navigate it) and re-entered my answers, saved, and got him back to the main screen.
Then, he admits to me that he "didn't even read my application or resume," and tells me about all the management disorganization problems since his boss was on leave... Like that's an excuse.
Please understand that I have 10 years of retail management experience, and was appalled at the lack of organization and disrespect I experienced there. I told the interviewer that I would consider his offer to start on that coming Monday.
When he called back for my answer I kindly declined. Then an hour later the store manager called to offer me a job "more suited to my experience level," as a shift manager on the floor. However, after dealing with the extreme ineptitude of the assistant manager there, I knew that I did not want to have him as my superior.

Interviewed May 2010 (took a day)
I filled out an application online. Got a call a couple months later from a local Store Manager who finally had a couple of openings and he asked me if I was still looking to work at Michaels. I was, so he scheduled me for an in-person interview the next day. I met him then and we spoke at length- the interview ended up lasting about 2 hours! All I needed was to pass a background check and I'd hear back from him soon. I guess all my interview preparation paid off because I was hired and started training less than a week after the in-person interview. Overall, I found the process to be very straightforward and simple.

Interviewed Jun 2010 (took 5 days)
I filled out an online application, got a call a few days later and was interviewed by Store Manage. He was very nice, seemed to want me as a sales associate, and a few days later I was asked to come in to process the paperwork. I was told at that time the pay was $8.00 per hour. I didn't find out about the part time information until I asked about it.
Being they couldn't confirm I would actually get 20 hours, it just wasn't feasible for me to take the job for less than 30 hours. Wish they had made it clear in the beginning. Also they have a point system if you clock in earlier tor later han your scheduled time, if you take a sick day or week, they take a point for that so, if you accrue 6 points in a specific timeframe, they fire you.....Seems strange to me, but maybe it keeps employees on their toes?

Reason for Declining
I could not get the hours I needed, I had assumed I was being interviewed for a full time job, until I showed up to process the paperwork, then I found out I was going to be parttime.
