Interviewed Apr 2012 (took 6 months)
I got the interviewing by turning in my resume at a Microsoft recruiting event on-campus. From there I had an on-campus interview. Took an eternity to hear back from Microsoft and then they told me they wanted me to come up for an onsite interview in the next weeks. Translation: They take 5 months but I only have 2 weeks.
After hearing that they wanted me to come onsite I probably had communications with 4 different people to organize the trip and it seemed very unorganized and confusing. All at the same time I was preparing for the onsite interview.
Onsite I was treated quite well with all expenses paid however the ferrying around to different buildings for interviews just adds to the stress. As others have stated the lunch interview will be the most awkward lunch of your life so eat lite.
I received 3 interviews, not a good sign, as others have stated the more interviews the better. Day later, before I even made it all the way home, got the rejection email. I asked for interview feedback but I got the canned response that it is company policy not to share feedback. Overall not really sure what they are looking for as I feel I coded the questions quite well, have the experience needed, and communicated my thought process thoroughly throughout.

Interviewed Apr 2012 in Bangalore (India) (took a day)
I had 5 rounds of interview. The first round is a gate-keeper round, which I cleared to get into a full-day interview process (which have atleast 4 rounds of interview).
The interviews are basically technical - algorithm and data structures.
The difficulty level of the interview keeps increasing, and steeply at times.
The first three rounds are simpler, while the last two rounds are more difficult and are focused on trying to exactly map out the individual's strengths and weaknesses. (I got through the first 4 rounds, but did not clear the last one)
The interviewers are pretty open to giving hints and helping you out in solving the problem.
Apart from the solution itself, I feel that positive approach, openness to reconsider, and think through the solution are also important aspects.
Preparing for the interview with online interview questions helps, but the experience of the interview is truly new. The level of questions can be easily jacked up, so it helps to prepare, but stay calm and actually think in the interview.
I also felt that they need to be re-assured that you enjoy the process of solving, and can actually do this effectively. They also are very keen on accurate self-assessment.

Interviewed Mar 2012 (took a day)
Interviewer asked about resume, asked me to describe some of my experiences and what I was looking for, then gave me a technical problem to solve. It wasn't that hard but I was rusty with the concept so I didn't do that well. I asked a few questions about the further interview process then left.

Interviewed Nov 2011 in Bellevue, WA (took 2 days)
I had a quick phone screen with the hiring manager one day after being referred by my contract agency. A few days later I had a set of three 1:1 interviews, two with user researchers and one with a designer. The total interview process was about three hours. I was given an offer within a few days and started my employment within two weeks.

Negotiation Details
I was able to negotiate a higher hourly rate. Additionally, my rate was also slightly higher because I voluntarily opted out of health benefits, as I already have them through my spouse.

Interviewed Feb 2012 in Seattle, WA (took a day)
It was overall a very pleasant process. I learned a lot about the company and about the position. The working environment at Microsoft is amazing. Some may say it's a little isolated since everyone has an office. I personally really like it because I think it offers great personal space. You can leave the door open to have a more public space, or you can close the door when you just need some quiet time.
The interviewer were friendly and at the same time very efficient in getting the information they want from me.

Interviewed Mar 2012 (took 4+ weeks)
A regional recruitment representative called me and asked me several questions about how I would handle problems in the workplace, what my job aspirations were and to gauge my problem solving skills. The interview lasted about 25 minutes.

Interviewed Feb 2012 (took a day)
Seemingly well organized day, starting with the presentation of my work to less people then planned. Followed by 1:1 interviews with people begin brought in last minute. One accompanied me for a lunch interview and I would get to know if I'm continuing to interview after then. Switch in interviewers due to their availability continued in the afternoon. I meet with 7 people 1:1, finishing with the studio head. The culture of spending money on outsourcing instead of spending efforts on resolving production issues is apparent. The pressure to deliver seems to be extremely high for them to only consider rushing through immature processes.

Interviewed Apr 2012 in Seattle, WA (took a day)
Pretty straightforward and generic data structure and algorithm questions on linked lists and array operations. Overall did well, but no offers. I think they were looking for someone who codes really well vs someone who comes up with good solutions but only pseudocode

Interviewed Feb 2012 in Bellevue, WA (took a day)
This was for a contract position at MS and I had spoken with 2 Managers and 1 Sr. Designer for 30 minutes each. I had to present my portfolio, walking through process and my roles in the design with each employee separately. The overall interview was casual.
