Interviewed Sep 2011 in Redmond, WA (took 4+ weeks)
September 18, I flew to Seattle. Microsoft gave us a welcome reception. We had a great time during the reception.
September 19, Interview day. We got up 7:00am. Microsoft staff took us to Microsoft campus to take technical interview, of course, we had our breakfast there. We had four interviews with Microsoft Windows team in the morning, starting from 8:00am. Each interview last for 45mins and we had 15mins break time after each interview.
After the four interviews, Microsoft took us to have launch and we wait for the interview results. After 1:30pm, Microsoft staff would tell us the interview results one by one. Then, Microsoft staff took us to return Westin hotel.
September 20, I together with my friend did a lot of sight seeing in Seattle and Redmond. Then we flew back that night.

Interviewed Dec 2009 in Redmond, WA (took 3 months)
I provided my resume to my university's recruiter. I had worked with her in the past for a Microsoft sponsored student event, so she knew me.
A few weeks later Microsoft was conducting interviews on my school campus and invited me for what they call "oncampus interviews." This takes the place of a phone screening. Before the interview I fill out a form stating what positions I'm interested in: SDET, SDE, or PM. On the day of the interview you are interviewed by a single person, who asks general questions, and then questions more specific to your preferred area.
If you pass this phase you're invited to an interview at Microsoft, and you meet with multiple people, generally interviewed by two teams. You go to the office of the person interviewing you, and have to answer technical questions and do whiteboard programing. At each stage the interviewer can choose to send you home, but if they don't you're eventually interviewed by the fifth and final person, the hiring manager who has final say in whether you get an offer or not.
It took several months before my last interview before I heard that I was going to be getting an offer. This was unusual compared to my friends experiences.

Interviewed Aug 2011 in Redmond, WA (took 3+ weeks)
I had 5 one-hour long interviews in the same day. Two weeks later I was contacted by the hiring manager, that told me I got selected for the job and the HR would schedule one additional interview with the General Manager of the department.
For all 6 interviews the HR person asked me for 4 options of days that I could be available. Then, they returned with the date I should block. One day before the interview I received the name of the interviewer, time and place (building/room number). I had to walk towards each Office where the interviews were conducted.
All interviewers were very cordial and gave me their full attention during the interview. I felt very well treated by them. The first interview was more about my personal preferences of communication, working environment and working style. The second interview was with a "future" peer that asked me technically questions aiming to verify my knowledge. The third and forth interviewers were with very Senior persons that talked about many things and I can't say what they were trying to check. My 5th interview in that day was with the hiring manager and it happened at 4 pm. At that time I was completely exhausted. The hiring manager was a fantastic character and he manage to make the interview very relaxed and enjoyable. At that time he already had received feedback from the other interviewers and he double checked some of my answers. He also asked me to say one or two sentences about each person I had the chance to talk with. He finished the interview with just 40 minutes rather than 1 hour. Initially, that bothered me because I concluded that I could be of no more interest to him. But, before I left his office he made clear that he was empathetic with my full day of interviews, with all the tension it generates and that I had showed to be a very good candidate, hence there were no need for prolonging the stress. He also told me to wait for 1 or 2 weeks while they would be interviewing two other candidates.
The last interview happened about 2 weeks later and it was just 30 minutes. The General manager was very friendly and had a very impressive resume. She walked along her department aisles introducing me to other employees and also showed off 4 very cool special offices dedicated for special tasks performed by her team.

Interviewed Jun 2009 in Redmond, WA (took 2 weeks)
First I got a 1 phone interview. That is not very technical. After that I immediately get a on-site interview inviataion. I accepted that and the next week I was in Redmond. On the interview day, I first met my interview coordinatior, who brings me to the first round of 1:1. I met 5 person in a role in one day, eaching taking about 1 hour. Two of them are from one team A, two from team B, and the last one was a manager who manages both team A and team B. The next week I got an email from the corrdinatior saying they declined my application. After that I wrote an email to the manger asking for a re-consideration, and the next day I got an email saying the first email they sent me was a mistake. Huuuu.... They gave me an offer and I happily accepted it.

Interviewed Jun 2009 in Redmond, WA (took a day)
The interview was mostly centered around designing a system, algorithms and also some puzzles. The interview was not too difficult for me. One of the puzzles was the "aha" type that I could not solve without hints from the interviewer. I would say the interviews were just like typical Microsoft or any other major tech company interviews

Interviewed Jul 2011 in Redmond, WA (took 3 days)
Interview loop; 8 people. Precision questioning. Each interviewing building on previous interview. Be decisive and honest. Say you need to think about something before answering if you need time to give a thoughtful answer. Take the time to think. Silence is ok. Otherwise answer precisely the question then elaborate to give more color.
