Interviewed Jan 2012 in Seattle, WA (took a day)
I got my first interview through my career services. Its a very generic process with one interview in the campus and once you clear that, they would invite you to Seattle.
I guess my on campus interview was very good, she asked some design questions.
This interview went pretty well and I was called for the next round to Seattle.
Here my interview was with the MS Ad Center group. I had 5 interviews, i had to solve plethora of design questions, some were based on online advertising technology as well. Since I had ample exposure to Online Ad targeting technology through my internship, I explained my internship project and talked about Ad Networks, Ad Serving technology and how the Ad targeting works by collecting data from cookies and other data partners.
I thought it went pretty well, but after a week i got a reject email from the recruiter. Not really sure what they were looking for.

Interviewed Jan 2011 in Seattle, WA (took a day)
four guy interviewed me in the interview and basically they asked not very hard questions. if you read book like programming interview exposed, you should be able to handle it.
I think I failed at the last round, in which it was the manager. the manager ask me to get a design problem, but obviously, i am not prepared. I have heard before that the manager will not ask programming questions, thus I was not prepared for that.

Interviewed Jul 2010 in Redmond, WA (took 2 months)
Applied online, said I knew someone who worked there (true.) Lots of questions about why I had returned to Seattle after being gone many years. Was not asked the typical 'trick' Microsoft questions you find online. It seemed they really wanted experienced people who knew content (writing, grammar, etc) and throwing developer-type trick questions at interviewees was not the way to get a good hire. I showed several writing samples, etc. It was a positive experience, but I found another job before they offered me anything.

Interviewed Jan 2012 in Seattle, WA (took 3 days)
I have been notified that the interview will be on December, however, they change the date to January. So I have too much more time to prepare. The interview involves much more design questions and only a little code question. It is quite tired to be interviewed from 9:00 am to nearly 6:00 pm with 5 persons. They all are very nice and smart. My feeling for the interview is very positive. Because one of my interviewer said I want you to do....blabla after interview. And one of them also give me his thumb. However, I still don't get the offer. I guess it is because my fault for analyze the complexity of a code. I was too tired and said n square, however, I mean 2 to the order of n....

Interviewed Dec 2011 in Redmond, WA (took 2 days)
Mine was an internal interview loop that lasted two days, two directors, two technical managers, hiring manager, peer, and GM. Microsoft tends to have what's called an AA (As Appropriate), which is when you know you're a serious contender. Many people never make it to the AA.
I had to send some emails to follow-up, but otherwise the process was thorough and professional. I must have been runner-up because they kept me on hold longer than they had initially noted.
