Interviewed Jan 2010 (took a day)
After an online submission, there was a quick turnaround in the review. An interview was set for two weeks later. Meeting the hiring manager was a pleasure as it was a discussion both about the job / role / expectations, as well as my skills/experience. Following that was a conversation with HR who started out the conversation with my background. This individual never looked at me once, and at some point asked my current salary at which point, she abruptyly ended the discussion even though I made it clear that the position is very different and the salary was not the driving factor in our conversation. I spoke to the hiring manager much later and it was clear that HR drove the decision without taking into consideration any of the relevant factors.

Interviewed Nov 2009 in Chicago, IL (took a day)
1st round consisted of a phone interview with HR on campus and 2nd round was a full day interview in Chicago consisting of four 1:1s. First round questions were mostly behavioral and fit, building rapport with the interviewer, and giving reasons why you want to work for Morningstar as a "name of position."
Second round included dinner at the HQ with HR, current employees, and MDP candidates, mostly for information gathering for the next day's interview. On nterview day there were firm presentations to give candidates a feel for Morningstar's business practices and culture and four 1:1s interviews with Managers, HR, and previous MDPer.
Overall, recruiting was very well organized and tightly run.

Interviewed Nov 2007 in Chicago, IL (took a day)
There was a full day of interviews, including 3 one-on-one interviews. Morningstar makes all levels of employees available to do interviews, including top management (CEO, CFO, etc.). Each interview was 30 minutes long and relatively low stress. It was not expected that candidates have prior finance industry background. There was also a panel with current Data Analyst employees for a questions and answer session.

Interviewed Oct 2008 (took 5+ weeks)
The process started with on-campus recruiting. There were then phone interviews and on-site interviews. There were several senior managers at the interviews who represented various departments. We were fed a nice lunch mid-day and the building was okay, but they were in the process of moving to the new headquarters,

Interviewed Jul 2009 in Chicago, IL (took a day)
The interview was mainly asking whether I was competent enough to do a software developer job with a non-software background, and whether I would be willing to learn financial knowledge, both of which I was asked three times with different way of asking. The interviewer was alright but was not very clear in talking, and there was a second person who stays quiet most of the time in the background, which sometimes made me slightly awkward.
Will update this when I move on with the interview.
