Interview was okay. The interviewers' body language acted like they did not want to be there, as if I was wasting their time.

Interviewed Jan 2011 in New York, NY (took a day)
I replied to an ad for a research tech position at Mount Sinai Medical school and immediately got an email response from the laboratory manager. Asked me to come in within the next few days for an interview. Was very nice and friendly, and proceeded to tell me all about the position what my responsibilities would be, and asked if I had any questions. Didn't really ask me to much about myself, i offered my transcript and tried to follow up with good questions. Never heard back, so I emailed as a follow up and they choose someone with different educational background.

Interviewed Jul 2008 in New York, NY (took 2+ weeks)
Met with the PI. He was a very well-intentioned and serious investigator. Had decent NIH funding but cited institutional limitations with salary. The lab space was good and though a bit cramped the Mount Sinai campus is an ok size for being in NYC. The housing options were very limited. Off-site housing in that area of the city is very expensive. Staff and others were cordial.

Reason for Declining
Salary was too low. Accepted a post-doc at Princeton for 55K

Interviewed Jun 2009 in New York, NY (took a day)
I was referred by one of my colleagues to the chairman of the department. The chairman was very straight and arranged the interview in timely fashion. Went there one day before and stayed in a hotel in upper east side of Manhattan. The interview went on for one day and consists of a presentation and a lot of 1-to-1 conversations. Most of the interviewees are very nice and did not ask any harsh questions. Had dinner with the chairman along with my wife and it was in a very nice restaurant. Generally speaking, it was a very nice trip. I was a bit nervous but still got the offer in the end.
Interview Questions
Negotiation Details
The chairman was straightforward and provides a list of base salary, benefits, working environments, etc. I was overall quite happy with the things they can provide but asked for an increase in base salary because NYC has very high living costs. The chairman added $10,000 to the base right away and I was very satisfied.
I also asked for some starting research funds but the chairman wasn't very sure whether he can provide this given my position. But he generously provided it in the end and I felt complimented.
Other Details
I got the interview through an Employee Referral and the interview consisted of a 1:1 Interview, a Presentation and a Personality Test.

Interviewed Dec 2009 in New York, NY (took 3 weeks)
I felt they called me for an interview without even taking a look at my resume. The work they do in ther lab is completely different than what I am experienced in. That should not be an issue but They wanted someone ready to go who is experienced in the area of the work they are doing. I just didnt understand if there is a miss match between their requirements and my profile why I was called for an interview.
