Strategic Planning Analyst Interview

Strategic Planning Analyst
Beaverton, OR

I applied online and the process took 3 weeks - interviewed at NIKE in June 2010.

Interview Details – Interview process consisted of an initial phone screen (by a headhunter) who essentially asked very generic questions about "why Nike?" and "why Portland/Beaverton" to assess fit. Second phone interview was with a Strategy Manager who seemed distracted and not prepared for the interview - he asked a very simple market assessment question. Final round interviews were all day on campus in Beaverton - very cool place and Senior Strategy leadership were impressive, but overall, salary and the company's interest in me (though they offered me a position) seemed lacking.

Interview Questions

  • Why should Nike go direct to consumer through its own retail stores?   Answer Question
  • Describe how you dealt with and overcame inefficient managers and corporate bureaucracy?   Answer Question

Reason for Declining – Salary was extremely uncompetitive compared to my current (at the time) management consulting role and other corporate strategy / investment finance offers I was considering
