Interviewed Nov 2011 in Houston, TX (took a day)
Tons of candidates, from all across the country, all with different academic disciplines. We had a social the night before, then broke off into smaller groups for dinner. Had fun, make sure to talk and make yourself known. Next day had a benefits presentation then two one on one interviews, be on your toes the questions can get technical.

Interviewed Oct 2011 in Houston, TX (took 2 weeks)
on-campus interviewed with two group of interviewers. I received a call from one of my interviewers on the next day and invited me to an office visit. At the office visit, I had five 30 minutes 1-1 interviews. All the interviewers are VP. All the people from NOV are very friendly and nice. I didn't get the offer at the end, but it is really a great company.

Interviewed Apr 2011 in Houston, TX (took 2 days)
This first interview was conducted on campus, and consisted of two 30 minute 2:1 interviews with middle management and previous Next Gen employees. Mostly behavioral based questions and conversation.
The second phase was a two day interview process at their headquarters in Houston, TX. The first night involved a social mixer with candidates and current NOV employees, with most of them being Next Gen members. For the most part, everyone you talk to is very nice and seems genuinely interested in getting to know you. However just be prepared to be assertive as you will literally be interrupted mid-conversation by other candidates. After the social mixer you are split up into small groups and go out to dinner with ex-Next Gen employees.
The following day consists of breakfast, a presentation by an HR manager who goes over all of the boring but very important benefits details, and a 30 minute session with the CEO, Pete Miller, who came off as very impressive. After that you will have two more 1:1 interviews, very similar to the first interviews. Later after all of the interviews are complete, lunch is served and you will visit nearby manufacturing and training facilities.
That night is another dinner, however this one is arguably much more important. Instead of speaking with current and ex Next Gen employees, you are talking and eating next to directors, VPs, and Presidents from various divisions within the company. Treat every conversation as a mini-interview but also try to be as genuine and personable as possible. Once again, be prepared for your aggressive fellow candidates to interrupt and try to steal the spotlight, much like sorority rush. Don't be nervous if you don't know too much about specific operations in the oil industry, however be up to date on current events concerning the industry.
Overall I had a great experience. All of the employees I met were incredibly friendly and professional. Also remember to be nice to your fellow candidates as there is a good chance you could be working with them. There is alcohol at both dinners + social mixers, feel free to enjoy but DO NOT get drunk. Treat both days and the entire process as one, long, interview.

Interviewed Feb 2011 (took a day)
This was the on campus interview offered by National Oilwell Varco for it's Next Generation Program. The interview was a day after the presentation in which NOV employees spoke about the company and the Next Generation Program. They stressed that they were seeking the "best and brightest." However, I don't understand how you can find that with a 2.7 (and lower in some cases) GPA requirement. Nonetheless, the morning of the interview, I spoke with 2 employees for 30 minutes followed by 2 other employees for 30 minutes. The questions were typical behavioral and experience-related questions.

Interviewed Oct 2010 in Houston, TX (took 3 weeks)
The recruiting for this program consists on an on campus and the corporate visit.
The on campus had a presentation the night before seemed key to go to. All but one person who went to the presentation was invited to the corporate visit and there was only one person from my school at the corporate visit who didn't make it to the presentation. The interview was two 30-minute interviews that were all behavioral in nature. If you use the basic situation-action-result interview model for each question, you'll do just fine. Be prepared to tell them why you'd be a good fit for the program and what types of roles/projects would be of interest to you.
The corporate visit was 2 days and reminded me of sorority rush or the tv show, The Bachelor. Like rush, they are pretty much solely looking for fit at this point. They evaluate you from the moment you step off the plan until the moment you are back at the airport so keep that in mind at all times. They make PowerPoints with your picture/background/info from the first interview for each candidate and distribute it to everyone involved in the process. They have current Next Gens very involved in the process as well as senior leadership. They treat you very well by taking you around Houston to experience the company, the dining and the nightlife, but those things are as much of an evaluation ground for the company as they are a gift to you. You do you have two formal interviews where you should show competency in a specific role but these interviews are weighted far less than any other final round interview you will ever go to. The last thing I'll say about the corporate visit is that people (especially towards the end) start becoming quite desperate and competitive to talk to company execs to impress them. It is literally like being on the Bachelor where people will interrupt your conversation to get their own time with a person.
Overall, the people in the company were really nice and seemed to like working for NOV. My best advice would be to meet as many people as possible and be the leader of the candidate pool rather than the follower.

Interviewed Oct 2010 in Houston, TX (took 2 weeks)
Had initial phone interview, pretty straightforward, mostly behavioral questions, just be yourself and show you are really interested. Was invited back for second round in Houston, only two 30 minute 1 on 1 interviews, pretty much everything else was interacting and meeting employees of the company. They want to see how you react in a social setting and what your networking abilities are. Make sure you have good questions to ask everyone, because you will meet ALOT of people. Once again, show that you are really interested and have done your research, your not expected to be an oil & gas expert, but make sure you have an idea of whats going on.

Interviewed Nov 2008 in Houston, TX (took 2 days)
Know yourself very well because questions asked during the interview are generated from what you have told the interviewer. Make sure you stand out and show them what makes you unique. Be attentative to the morning presentations because it can be used in the interviews.
