New York City Department of Education Business Analyst/Consultant Interview

Posted Mar 25, 2012

Declined Offer – Interviewed in Brooklyn, NY Mar 2012 – Reviewed Mar 25, 2012

Interview Details – After initial online application there was a few weeks of waiting, then the Program Director spoke with me briefly on the phone, but it seemed as though she had already intended to invite me for the panel interview. When i arrived she ended up being in a meeting, so I was only interviewed by one other person until she finished her meeting. It took about an hour, followed a script, and included your standard: tell me why this job, talk about your strengths, talk about an example of a good manager you had...etc. and was followed by some situational questions, i.e what would you do if.....the two women that interviewed me were very nice and friendly, they clearly got along with each other.

Interview Question – What would you do if you were in a meeting with people from multiple departments that were all involved in a project and your boss turns to you and says, "can you have this done in two months, right?" how would you respond?   View Answer

Reason for Declining – i had another job offer that was extremely time sensitive and the whole ordeal felt extremely rushed. Since the job was a consultant position there was no benefits and it was only 35 hours a week. In general I never felt 100% clear on what exactly I would be doing in the position and was concerned that the employer did not have a deep understanding of my skill set and if it was adequate.
