Interview

Phone Interview: After creating my profile and applying to jobs on their career website I got an email asking to schedule a phone screening for one of the positions that I applied for. I scheduled the interview using their website and they called me right on the dot that day and time. the interview was with an HR representative, very short about 10 minutes long, she tells me she will pass my information on to the cosmetics department manager. I get an email 30 minutes later asking me to electronically sign some paperwork for this position. Still awaiting another response, i hear it takes 24-72 hours.

    Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Nordstrom (Denver, CO) in July 2015.

    Interview

I interviewed for a position at MAC Cosmetics. After handing out resumes and applications to numerous MAC locations I received a call from a MAC recruiter who asked me to interview at the local MAC Store. After having passed that portion I was asked to complete an interview that would be completely based on my make-up application, my customer service, and my knowledge of products. After having passed that portion I was asked to interview with the counter manager at the MAC counter in Nordstrom. I was then offered the position.

    Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Nordstrom (Portland, OR) in June 2015.

    Interview

The first interview process was a phone interview and it only lasted 5 minutes and was pretty basic. I have an in person interview next week. I had to call back for a question and when I called the HR, the lady that picked up was super helpful and made me feel really good about applying at Nordstrom because it is good to know that they hire good people that are going to do their job and provide a pleasant experience. Customer service is a HUGE thing for this company so when you have your interview, I would try to talk about your experience with customers and make it obvious that your first priority is your customers and providing them with an excellent shopping experience.

    Interview

You are asked to create a profile on their website where you fill out general information, like name, address, past employers, etc. You also upload your resume, cover letter, or any other attachments. On this profile you indicate which positions you'd like, and whenever there is an opening (for your desired location) they email you, asking you to send in the application for said position. I had a phone interview with their headquarters in Seattle, even though I applied for a position in Maryland. You get to even pick the time for the phone interview (PST). It was very short, maybe three questions maximum. I did fairly well, she even told me so, but I wasn't offered the position because I wouldn't be able to work full time in the fall because of my college classes.

    Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Nordstrom (Los Angeles, CA) in February 2015.

    Interview

You have to apply online in order to get the process started. Their online application questionnaire asked a lot of invasive, unrelated questions like "How much of your education after high school have you paid for yourself?" and "Are you physically active?" which definitely put me off with the company after I applied online. I applied online and got a call a few weeks later, which was difficult. I definitely felt that they wanted me to be overly competitive with coworkers. It is a commission sales job, but the company should be making their employees feel like they want all of their employees to succeed at meeting their sales goals, not fighting each other to stay employed. I told the recruiter I wasn't interested in the position in the phone interview.

    Application

The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Nordstrom (Fort Worth, TX) in January 2015.

    Interview

I put in an online application one evening and the very next day got an email to set up a phone interview. Did phone interview and was asked to come in for an interview in exactly two weeks. Fast forward two weeks, I get there and the lady interviewing me wasn't friendly at all. She was quick and to the point, which is understandable, but at the same time, I want to feel comfortable In a workplace. Anyways, the interview was going well until she asked my availability and I let her know that I work in a spa on weekends and that I would need notice to work Friday and Saturdays so that I could get someone to cover for me at the spa I work at. She let me know that she would need me every Saturday and that it wasn't an option to miss. I feel like my time was wasted, since I stated this over the phone interview. The interview was very rushed and overall it was just an uncomfortable experience. It's a bummer because I was really hoping to work for this company since I feel like I could be a great asset here.

They asked me why I wanted to work for them. They asked what I can bring to the table and what sets me apart from the other applicants. They told me they would call me if I made it and I'm still waiting. Most difficult question was what are my weaknesses.

I applied online. The process took a week. I interviewed at Nordstrom in November 2014.

    Interview

You have to fill out their application online prior to receiving a call from their HR department. They will ask you questions like, "Why Nordstrom?," or "Name one time as a team, where you have accomplished a goal, & what did you do from there?" If they like how you've responded, they will invite you to the in-person interview. I went to my in-person interview within a week, & arrived a little late. I was one of the last person interviewed. Again, it was 1-on-1 with HR & the same questions were asked. Once done with the interview, you are taken oj to tje selling floor & you personally meet one of the counter managers. You are told to greet the customer & start a sale. If the customer is wary, find a way to close the sale. I was able to close the sale with ease & was told I would get a callback later that week. I received a callback the next day offering me a seasonal oncall position with fragrances. But the pay was generous and non-negotiable & 3% commission lightened it. However, I will probably speak to a few cosmetic managers to talk about cosmetic openings as well since I am a cosmetologist.

    Interview Questions

    • Why Nordstrom?   1 Answer
    • It is nearing the end of the week & you notice you haven't reached your goal. Tell me what would you do & if you still couldn't reach your goal, what would be your initiative to prevent this next week?   1 Answer
    • What is most important to you when you're on the selling floor? Tell us what & why.   Answer Question

    Negotiation

    There wasn't room for negotiation.
