Applied on a Sunday afternoon, got an email response Monday afternoon about open interviews that Friday morning. Heard back from the manager who decided to hire within about a week.
Open/group interview process - all other potential candidates were sat down and a general introduction to the store was given by HR/hiring manager. A number of department managers were introduced, then HR employee asked each candidate individually what departments they were interested in, could be general (e.g., any men's department) or specific (e.g., only Bp shoes or men's sportswear). Then you are matched up with available manager for 1:1 interview in a room with most of the other managers:candidates. They ask questions about previous employment, retail, customer service, and open-ended ones as well (I.e., "tell me about a time when you reached or exceeded a goal," or "describe a time when you encountered a dilemma in a previous work environment," etc.). The manager may or may not take you to the sales floor to see how you would sell an item or garment.
Business to business casual attire would be recommended, but also show your sense of style (it is a higher-end specialty store)!

I walked in one day and talked to the cosmetics manager and asked if they were hiring for MAC. She said yes and to apply online even if it just says a general cosmetics sales associate. The online application consisted of uploading your resume and answering personality questions. Two days later I got an email with a link to choose a date for the phone interview. The link didn't work. I tried it again for about three days and the scheduling system was down. I did a live chat online and they gave me a phone number for a website help line. I called them and they told me to call the store's HR abd they could manually set up a date. I called for three days and no one in hr answers the phone. I finally asked for the cosmetics manager who transfered me and then the woman in hr picked up. She scheduled a phone interview within a couple of days and told me she would call me at 11am. That day came and no call. I waited an hour and then called the store. Again, no one picked up. Called and left messages for the next four days. Still no call. On the fifth day after when my phone interview was supposed to be, I called again and she answered telling me she lost the paper that had my phone number on it but she wanted to know if I could do the phone interview now. Of course I said yes. She asked me basic questions like:
Why nordstrom?
Describe a difficult customer.
Describe a time you didn't reach a goal of yours.
How do you feel about making commission?
It took about 10 minutes and then asked about my availability and said a cosmetics manager would call me to schedule an interview. Waiting for phase 2. I see that a lot of people have gone through some type of miscommunication like I have, so we'll see. Hope this helps.

Applied online next day recieved email to set up phone interview. If you do well on phone interview they will call you in for a 1:1 interview. Phone interview was with a hr manager she seemed nice and seemed liked she wanted to hire me over the phone so I thought I got it. Then went for the 1:1 interview and the hr didn't interview me, the shoe manager who didn't know nothing about me did the interview so I had to make a good impression again didn't go so well. Didn't receive an offer.

First had a phone interview then was asked back for a one on one interview with the hiring manager of the Juniors department. It was very laid back and casual. Then had a one on one interview with the store manager. I heard back a week later that I got the position. I have been with the company since April. It is a great company for advancement. Must be outgoing, personable and a hard worker or you will not stay with the company long.

I was out of town so all of my interviews were over the phone. I had to go through 3 interviews before I was offered the position. The first one was with a company that they hire just to weed people out. It lasted about 30 min. It was generic questions... describe an outstanding customer service, how would you handle an angry customer, etc. My second interview was with the Human resources assistant manager. It was pretty easy. More generic questions. There was one that was hard though,,, i was asked to role play on the phone and sell her a pair of shoes. Its hard to sell sometihng that doesnt actually exist. Third was with HR manager, and fourth with store manager. The last two were extremely short... I think if you make it to the last two your pretty much in.. just be friendly and sound enthusiastic about Nordstrom and their culture.

Applied online. Easy and fast online application. Got a phone confirmation email a couple of days after. Scheduled a phone interview a few days after receiving email. HR called, was very nice. Asked a few questions. The lady seemed nice and personable, asked me a few short questions just to get an overview of who I was and whether I was reliable. I asked her what kind of candidates she was looking for and when I would be hearing back from her. Will be meeting with her 1:1.

i set up a nordstrom career account, where I chose to be notified of immediate job openings. I recieved an email about a job opportunity so I went online and applied for the job. It consisted of general information a questionairre (50 questions). The next day I recieved a phone call and an email to set up a phone screen. I called the HR representative and spoke with her the same day.

The interview process was very easy for me. Had a one on one with the head chef. I told him about myself, and what i do before. Was very direct and informative. I expressed that leadership is very crucial for major companies to run smoothly. He hired me as soon as left the store. The work culture is fantastic. The employees make the customers feel welcomed and comfort.

did a breif phone interview with HR, then interview with HR manager and cosmetics asst. manager. typical interview questions. Then I interviewed with the cosmetics account executive and cosmetics manager. Then I was taken by the cosmetics manager and she told me to mock sell her some mascara. Was offered the job about a week later.
