Interviewed Oct 2010 in Cherry Hill, NJ (took 2 days)
The interview process was very easy for me. Had a one on one with the head chef. I told him about myself, and what i do before. Was very direct and informative. I expressed that leadership is very crucial for major companies to run smoothly. He hired me as soon as left the store. The work culture is fantastic. The employees make the customers feel welcomed and comfort.

Interviewed Jan 2012 in Richmond, VA (took 2 days)
Within 24 hours of complete the online application, HR contacted me by telephone and email requesting that I participate in a telephone screen. The email directed me to an Internet site where I scheduled the phone screen. I had approximately 20 days to choose from. After scheduling online, I received an email confirming the date and time of the phone screen. The email also stated that HR would call me during the time I selected. HR did not call. Given the phone screen was scheduled online, I gave the interviewer the benefit of the doubt and called after waiting 30 minutes. The interviewer rescheduled the interview. The interviewer called back at the time stated. The phone screen consisted of very general questions, nothing specific to my background or resume. The questions were not difficult.

Interviewed Jan 2012 in Boise, ID (took 2 weeks)
I applied online, and then received a phone call a week later. The interviewer was an hour late calling me. The phone interview was short with common questions: "Why did you apply to Nordstrom," "What is your schedule." I received a phone call the next day to go in for my group interview. I interviewed with 10 people, there were two HR girls giving the interviews.
The young ladies were nice, but they didn't seem too invested in the interview. They barely looked up as they were writing things down. It was not very engaging, and you are interviewing with your competitors in the room with loud music on - - so be prepared to try to be distracted and uncomfortable. Try to be unique and make an impression.

Interviewed Dec 2011 (took 3 days)
Very strange. I interviewed with who would be my director and his boss and it went well, very professional. Then I had a panel interview with a group of about 5 people who would be my peers, same job title. I was interviewed in a room alone with them. It was the most unprofessional experience I've had interviewing. Apparently, the folks had gotten together and concluded they should hector me, because from the get go, all they did was comment aloud as they looked at my resume how I didn't have the experience they wanted and also, because I had not worked at Nords for years, could not be possibly qualified. They never asked EA questions or technical questions, it was more of my sitting there with silences as they shot out criticisms of me as they stared at my resume. While the interview with the management before the group interview was highly professional and interactive, this was more like a session for them to put applicants down with no management witnesses. Without Glassdoor, who would know? One asked, "how would you do your job coming on board with no credibility?" They were the most bitter crew I've seen, and clearly did not want to hire anyone highly qualified that would threaten their position. They were long tentured people who were re-assigned to Enterprise Architecture having worked years at Nords in other positions. None when I asked had Enterprise Architecture experience elsewhere. However, I'm not a junior person, and having had interview and work experience at some of the largest companies over my years, this was the most negative and immature group interview I've ever had.

It was a one on one interview with the department manager and the human resources manger. They asked a series of questions about how I would respond in different hypothetical situations. Such as, If I were to see another employee doing somehting wrong how would I handle it.

Interviewed Aug 2010 in Miami, FL (took 2 days)
I interviewed with the regional Loss Prevention manager, but since I don't have LP experience they decided I would be better in Customer Service/Communications so I interviewed with that manager. It was easy and pleasant and for the first time I didn't feel nervous during an interview. A couple days later they called and I accepted the offer.

Interviewed Aug 2010 (took 1 week)
I had a connection through a previous work experience, and so had a phone interview with the cosmetics company prior to being passed onto the HR department at Nordstrom. The interview was with the HR manager as well as the cosmetics department manager. I got along really well with both of them! I was complimented, we talked about my past experience, what the job looked like, what I would do in certain scenarios, ect. The interview didn't take long due to the fact that I had an excellent recommendation and had already passed a talent interview over the phone. I was contacted for an interview mid week, set up an interview for early the next week, and was job offered within a few days. I accepted the offer at first, but asked about how salary was determined, and then set up a time to sign paperwork.
Reason for Declining
After careful consideration, I decided that going from being a store manager of my own location to the counter manager inside a department was not the switch I was looking to make. The main deciding factor, though, was the fact that I would be getting paid less as a counter manager than I had previously been paid as an assistant manager at my store. So I let them know I was unable to make the switch at that moment.

Interviewed Dec 2011 in Seattle, WA (took 6 weeks)
I was an out of state candidate & about a week after applying online I had an initial phone interview with the on site recruiter, then a second phone interview with a department director, I was then invited to fly up for an in person interview (consisted of four 1:1 interviews with various department managers). I had a very positive & pleasant experience. The recruiting team provided exceptional customer service. They made themselves accessible & were very easy to work with. The team I interviewed with was easy to talk to & very receptive. I felt the atmosphere to be competitive, challenging yet collaborative.

Reason for Declining
