Interviewed Apr 2012 (took a day)
I just had a phone interview for (originally) personal stylist assistant, but when I got the call they told me the position had already been filled and I could apply for retail sales. I said OK and the interview was really short, about 5 min. She offered me a 1:1 interview in store immediately. I accepted and will be interviewing in early May.

Interviewed Feb 2012 in Natick, MA (took 2 weeks)
I was contacted first by Nordstrom HR by phone where they asked a series of questions regarding why I wanted to work at Nordstrom and asked for examples of how i have dealt with a difficult situation in a workplace and how would I see myself working in a competetive sales environment. I was then called to interview in person where similar questions where asked. I was referred to a department manager where they asked similar screening questions and then asked questions geared towards selling and what additional things I would do to generate sales in the department and then onto role play a selling scenario in the department.

Interviewed Jan 2011 in Washington, DC (took 2 weeks)
Nordstrom sets up a phone interview first. They will ask about your previous retail experience and what areas of retail you work best in. If they like you, I guess, they will ask you on the spot to come in to one of two interviews. One with the department manager and second with the store manager. Nordstrom managers love personality, knowledge of the finest brands, and someone who is all about sales and signing up customers for different programs they offer.

Interviewed Apr 2011 (took 2 weeks)
I attended the Store Grand opening and was immediately smitten with this store! So much that I applied for 4 positions the very next day. About 3 days later I received a phone interview with an HR rep who then said she would call me back by the end of the week if they decided to schedule an interview. She called back 2 hours later!! Unfortunately I missed her call and we ended up playing phone tag for the next 3 days. She finally scheduled me for a 1:1 interview that following Monday. The interview Monday went well except for the fact that the manager I interviewed with was from a different dept than those I had applied for so when she sat me down and asked"So...tell me why you want to work in HOSIERY" I was like uh, ummmm, I don't! Well I was thinking that but I didn't say it. She asked me basic situation/response questions like "tell me a tie when you had to go above and beyond to satisfy a customer" and "What excites you about commission based sales?" Finally she asked me to pretend she was a customer and sell her the pantyhose she was wearing. (GULP!!) So despite the risk of rambling on I proceeded to talk about the style, quality, durability and comfortability of these stocking that I knew absolutely NOTHING about. She then left the room, came back a few minutes later and said I would be receiving an email soon regarding a second interview. Well I just knew I'd BLOWN it at that point - waiting for the old "thanks but no thanks" email. However, I must have sold the heck out of those pantyhose because I got an email that evening asking for information so they could run a background check. Funny thing was that the position referenced in the email was for the Men's Dept (which is one of the positions I had actually applied for). I answered all the questions and awaited a response. The manager of hosiery just called me today to schedule an interview with the store manager for the day after tomorrow. So to be honest at this very moment I don't know WHICH position I'm interviewing for but I have my fingers crossed either way.

Interviewed Mar 2010 in Palo Alto, CA (took 3 days)
I got an email from Nordstrom after 3 days re an interview. I came 20 mins. early and had to wait for a few minutes. The guy asked me situational questions like how do you deal with angry customers, how do you persuade customers etc. He asked me a bunch of questions. He told me to wait outside and after a few mins. A lady interviewed me again. Ask me almost the same questions(20 questions i think). They asked me to wait for a call so i did. They schedule me again for another interview. I met with the supervisor, she told me that i will be assigned in the active wear department, explained the job responsibility. She told me to wait for an email/call after 4 days because they will do background check. They never call so i called them back. The HR told me that i didn't get the job and they decided to continue the hiring process. After i talked to the lady that's the time they sent me an email that i didn't get the job. The next day a lady from HR called me and told me the same thing! Seems like they don't communicate with each other. I was expecting that i will get the job but i didn't =(

Interviewed Jan 2008 (took a day)
Started by asking me general interview questions such as "Why do you want a postion in retail" and "What are your strengths." They then asked about availability and if I would eventually be willing to relocate to a much bigger location. I got a tour and told I would be called back if they wanted to proceed. I did receive a call back although I decided to decline further because the whole position didn't seem to suit me. They really were "sale driven" and it seemed like a lot of pressure.
