Interviewed Oct 2011 in Chicago, IL (took a day)
They mostly hire out of their previous intern class, so only two rounds of interviews. Had first round phone interview, then flew to Chicago for final round interview. They have recent alumni of the program take you to around 5 different interviewers in different areas of the business. Most interview questions are behavioral or about general economic conditions, absolutely no technical questions.
The people I interview with were very friendly, after the interview you grab lunch with the program alumni who escorted you around and they are very helpful in answering more detailed questions about the job and working conditions.

Interviewed Dec 2011 in Chicago, IL (took 2 days)
Went through a recruiter, the interview consisted of a phone interview done by the hiring director and then the in person interview was 4 hours long. I met with HR, 3 managers and the director. They knew what they were looking for and the personalities all differed from asking a lot of questions to asking no questions at all.

Interviewed Nov 2011 in Chicago, IL (took a day)
Did a fairly basic 1:1 interview at university campus. Was very generic, as the normal interviewer was not available so someone from the department came to speak. Very nice person and was able to inform me to great detail about the function of the position. Still waiting, was told I would not hear back until after the new year.

Interviewed Oct 2011 in Chicago, IL (took 2 weeks)
I had an interview with six people. It took around three hours. First interview was with recruiter form HR department. I signed application and agreed on background check. Next three were with managers from fund accounting department. Last one was with two managers from hedge fund accounting. Be prepare for technical question or definition question for last interview. Generally all managers seemed very nice and enthusiastic about their work. They were also very descriptive about the company and the position.

Interviewed Aug 2011 in Chicago, IL (took a day)
HR called me and set up an interview the next week. I was suppose to meet up with three managers but they had an emergency at the department and I ended up meeting the Head department. The manager explained the position and asked me the usual questions (situational Q), I wasn't asked any technical Finance/Accounting Q's. I finished the interview in 30 minutes which I thought was too short but to be honest there was nothing more to say. I wasn't asked a lot of the silly questions where they tell you "tell us about a situation where you disagreed with a boss or when you used your creativity and the like!!"

Interviewed Jul 2011 in Chicago, IL (took a day)
panel phone interveiw to be followed by in person interview.
position was as a fixed income acccounting/it process business analyst to assess if a new software FA package (TPG) was accounting for process flows correctly.
panel consisted of the project manger and a "financial/accounting" sme (subject matter expert).
I prepared by reviewing the accounting litature for hedges/derivatives/ fx accounting etc
interview steps:
1.detailed accounting questions form the sme -- icnluding how you account for bonds and my past experince "setting up" for fasb 91 accounting. NT is going to start full fas 91 accounting. I had little experience with this so that did not go well
2. Next, the Project manager asked about soft ba skills such as how wouldl IA gather requjirements, what steps would i use etc. He also asked about several industry terms used by the fixed income traders. for exsample how would I define volitility if atrader sais he nmeeded a report to include volitility.
therre were supposed to be several others on the con call , but, they had been re assigned to a new project.
they did not pursue it futherr than the phone interview. My understandiong is they were going to use an internal resource or a big three consultant to handle this instead of a contract consultant.

Interviewed May 2011 in Chicago, IL (took a day)
I was called by an HR Recruiter from Northern Trust, who left me a phone voicemail message indicating that he wanted to speak with me about my qualifications and work experience. I was all excited - and called the recruiter back, and he said that he had only one question: what is my current salary? I asked him back why he wanted to know so quickly, given how we have not even spoken in person, nor have I met any managers for the position and talk about my experiences. He said that he did want to waste HIS time, nor did he want to waste the managers' time. After I reluctantly gave him my salary figure, he said, well, you know Northern Trust has a budget, and we have to be in line with that before we can hire people like you. I told him right away that why didn't he consider even meeting with me before being so rude? He said that I was wasting his time and hung up on me. The phone conversation lasted less than 2 minutes.
I'm very upset and disappointed. I was expecting to talk with the recruiter over the phone regarding my experiences like he said; instead, he said that I was wasting my time. A respectable company like Northern Trust actually employs pushy human resources recruiters to insult potential employees (and an employee referral) such as myself is a disgrace to their own reputation. What a waste of MY time.
I don't even want the job now even if I got called back. Northern Trust, you just left a very bad taste in my mouth. Learn to respect people.

Interviewed Jan 2009 in Chicago, IL (took 5 days)
Asked me some questions about my past experience. Told them as is and noted the difficulties in the technical implementation that we ran into. Was honest about my limitations given this particular product had integration difficulties dependent on what you are integrating into.
Then there was an interview with the technical team. Sent me some sample code and asked me to read up on it for followup interview.
