Interviewed Mar 2012 in Evanston, IL (took 4+ weeks)
This was for an RA position with an Economics professor.
I had an initial phone interview with the professor's assistant, asking about my math and Stata background. I was also asked about my work preferences (do I like working alone, do I like being micromanaged etc.), and I was asked about my long-term career goals.
About 3 weeks later I was contacted for a Skype interview with the professor. The professor asked similar questions (research background, skills, math courses, etc.) but also some hard-hitting questions: "Why are you not applying to Econ PhD programs now?".
I did not pass this round, but if you did, you were sent a problem set to do.

Interviewed Dec 2011 in Evanston, IL (took 4+ weeks)
The interview consisted of 2 Skype interviews within the period of a week. I interview with my direct supervisors and had no contact with HR during the interview phase. As such the questions were based on my experience in the field and my skillet. There were none of the typical HR styled hypothetical questions. It was a very straightforward interview process. It was about 2 weeks from the last interview to me receiving the offer. Work atmosphere is a good blend of private and public sector attitudes making it work with a good pace but with out the feeling of needless paper-pushing.

Interviewed Nov 2011 in Evanston, IL (took 6 weeks)
I had an excellent experience interviewing at Northwestern's Center for Talent and Development. They were very good at explaining the process and contacted me when they said they would through out the process. My first interview was over the phone, the second was with two department heads. All though, I did not make it to the third and final interview stage of another in person interview and Microsoft skills test, I will still keep applying at Northwestern based upon my positive interview experience and my friends who work there that all recommend it. Based upon the amount of interviews I went on the process took a little over 5 weeks.

Interviewed Jan 2009 in Evanston, IL (took 4 weeks)
Applied online to the main jobs page. About two weeks later I got a short call setting up the interview. Went in for one interview. Heard back about two weeks later.
The interview was very standard. Describe a situation where you encountered conflict, worked with a team, had to solve a problem. What are your strengths and weaknesses? The interviewer was nervous.
This level position is mainly looking for a personality that is friendly and will fit in at the office.

Negotiation Details
I was not able to negotiate. They said the hourly rate was firm. There is a range for each job so there should be room to negotiate. The jobs are usually posted with low to midrange for the job. They almost never offer over midrange for a job.
