I interviewed with one of the rep. from Novogradac. Interview was 30 min. long and it went well. The interviewers asked me general questions such as introducing myself. Also, the interviewer went over the resume with me step by step.

Interviewed Oct 2011 in San Francisco, CA (took 3 weeks)
I received an initial email to schedule a phone interview, which occurs at your convenience. The phone interview went very well, and I knew that I had gone through. The recruiter was impressed with my work and was in accord with what I was saying about work culture. I received an email the following business day asking for my recent resume and transcript. Once that was received, I was asked to offer a few dates as to when I would be available for an in-office interview. I went in 2 weeks later, and had a one on one interview with a Senior Accountant, who was very nice and informative. I felt I connected with her very well, however, it somehow became more of an informational interview, as she wasn't asking me that many questions. Then I took an assessment, which demonstrated skills for Microsoft Excel, as well as basic accounting principles. However, I must say the skills test definitely requires a more recent studying of intermediate accounting. Overall, it was done in a very professional manner, but I made the mistake of not being prepared enough to go on to the next interview, which would have consisted of an interview with the Supervisor, Senior Accountant, and a Manager. For future reference, be sure to be prepared with all accounting principles, and be sure to answer more about yourself and not ask too many questions about the position in your second interview. Once you've made it to the third interview, consider yourself hired. Good luck!

Interviewed Oct 2011 in Boston, MA (took 3 weeks)
Had a phone screen a few weeks back, now going to an in-person interview today. Not really sure what to expect. The setting-up process of this one-on-one could have been conducted a little more smoothly, but all in all, looking forward to seeing what today will bring.

Interviewed Apr 2011 in Bethesda, MD (took a day)
I applied online and received an email two days after. The first interview was a phone interview. I didn't prepare very well and the lady who interviewed me sounded very impatient. She kept sighing and I thought that the interview was a waste of time. Maybe because I am an international student and dont speak fluent English. I think I gave a bad impression and I knew that I wouldn't be able to get the face-to-face interview.

Interviewed Mar 2010 in Bethesda, MD (took 2 days)
When applying, I made it a point to send my resume and cover letter to all potential screeners including partners and managers in the department, as well as the HR dept. This info was found on the company website. There was a phone interview and then a first interview with one of the two parnters which also involved a skills test regarding excel and economic analysis. The second interview was just a one-on-one with the other partner. Both have different styles of interviewing but are very good at picking exactly what they are looking for. This seems to be someone with long term employment goals and the ability to communicate well with coworkers and clients. If you find that you are ever the awkward guy/gal in the room when it comes to sociability, don't waste your time interviewing. A good college grade point average and the ability to make intelligent statements about economic conditions based on tables are also essential requirements. Duting the interview, be honest and explain thoroughly anything that you think might stand out negatively. Once you get the job, the people are honestly great to be around and the personalities within the offices mesh as well as can be said about any of the best work environments out there. Tax season can be quite busy between February and April with 60 to 70 hour weeks, but the paid overtime makes it well worth it. Food is provided in the kitchen and office sponsored lunches occur almost weekly. Holiday parties are amazing as you get to meet some of your coworkers from other offices and finally put faces to voices.

Negotiation Details
The starting salary ranges by approximately $5k depending on previous experience, but the potential for growth is significant and easily attainable with hard work. The office is small and the Bethesda, MD office houses both partners so you will be working along side them every day where they will notice your stregths and weaknesses and you will benefit the entire time. When considering an offer, realize that the first year is all about OJT training regardless of your past experience and as this is expensive for the firm, you won't have much leway in the negotiation phase. If you truely think you have good experience, don't ask for more than $5k more than the offer as you will be passed over for the next best option. Good luck! See you on the other side.

The interview consisted of a Phone Interview, a 1:1 Interview, a Skills Test and a Background Check.
