Interviewed Jun 2011 in Burlington, MA (took 2 weeks)
The panel consisted of the hiring manager, IT Manager, Business Manager and VP of Marketing. Questions evolved around the exact process for implementing/identifying system issues and improvements. It was all about the process itself. What step do you perform first, when and why, through the completion of task.

Interviewed Jul 2011 in Burlington, MA (took 1 week)
I got a mail from the HR with a list of questions concerning my knowledge and one of their products. I replied to him with my response and then after 3 days I got a email from HR for a phone conversation (ASAP). I called his number but no response and so dropped him an email with my availability. Suddenly on a Monday the HR called me stating that y responses and my qualifications matched and asked me for my availability for a technical Interview. He asked for the same day and I managed the timings.
In the evening the Project Dev Mgr called me and is telling me that he believes my experience is not enough and he wants a more experienced candidate for this job and so he does not want to waste my or his time in taking the interview. Apologized and hang up.
I don't mind rejection but I guess they need to clear their own thoughts about their requirements rather then making calls and confusing candidates.

Interviewed Jan 2011 in Burlington, MA (took 2 months)
Nuance has established a reputation for themselves as a company that conducts endless interviews and hardly ever hires anyone. In the Boston area, this reputation is firmly entrenched, and Nuance deserves it richly.
Extremely inefficient. Continuous rescheduling of calls and phone screens, constant juggling of interview times. Very unprofessional, and telling of how they manage their business.
Multiple interviewers asked increasingly irrelevant questions, often adopting a slightly arrogant and smug tone. I would say that for the most part, the interviewers were unsure of the job description and seemed hazy on the job's daily duties and responsibilities.
Recent employee departures have instigated a brain drain at the company's HQ in Burlington. It is unclear to outside observers how Nuance Human Resources will be able to rectify their reputation and rebuild their employment brand in time.
Their HQ building in Burlington, MA is quite old at this point, and the decor is ratty and anachronistic, everything bathed in peculiar shades of orange and green.
Interviewing at Nuance means you should prepare to waste a ton of your time for a very low probability of success. Ask around, you'll hear remarkably consistent reports to this effect regarding Nuance's recruitment practices.

Interviewed Feb 2011 in Burlington, MA (took a day)
I talked to several people. The interview was very thorough and very fair. They didn't try "gotcha" questions. There was a long-winded (and very fair) whiteboard session (the problem was amusing).
What was the outcome? I still don't know. Feedback is that everyone loved me and would like to have me on board, and I got stellar reviews from my references. But the problem is that every hire has to be personally approved by the CEO,and this is the bottleneck in the process. Weeks later, and he apparently still has not looked at my application. Maybe I will get an offer, I don't know yet.

Interviewed Apr 2010 in Burlington, MA (took a day)
The HR employee was nice. She just did a basic background of the company and how the position arose. The hiring manager then took about 45 minutes asking basic questions about my background. Know your background, your experience, and be able to speak about the softwares you will be using.

A lengthy and hesitant process typical for these times. The main issue was different opinions of different people of the job requirements and function.
