They call to schedule an interview appointment. You meet with one HR representative. Then a representative from the department that you are applying for would ask a series of questions. That may be in one or two meetings. If all goes well they will call you back and give you a preliminary offer. After which you will be tested (drugs, academics, fitness etc)

Interviewed Nov 2008 in Fremont, CA (took 6 months)
The interview process was conducted by office personnel (secretaries) and unionized line workers. Started with inside referral. Next step was basic 1:1 interview. "What would you do if the line stopped"? Next phase was team interaction & observation. Your given a box of Legos & a picture of a fire truck (no instructions). With 4 other applicants you work together to assemble the fire truck. You are observed on your participation, contribution, if you take a leadershp role or let others figure it out. Next step is hands on simulation. Your shown once how to do a manual task. Then you are observed on how well you complete the task. Next step is the Benett Mechanical test, health & fitness test and basic math. Next up is the "final interview". A Manager & other salaried team member ask you question such as what you think makes a good team member. Why do you want to work at NUMMI, etc. Last step is the blood test for illegal substanceses.
