      Customer Service Representative Interview

      Mar 19, 2009
      Anonymous employee
      Delaware, OH
      Accepted offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at OfficeMax (Delaware, OH) in Oct 2008

      Interview

The interview and hiring process that I experienced from OfficeMax was all that has become expected in this "You Can Only Apply OnLine" day and age. You fill out their online form (Powered by "Taleo X") where you are forced to make up a user name and pass word, as if we didn't have enough of those already. From there you only need to fill out their app with all the information thats already in your resume, just like the real world. Then you need to wait in the dark for at least a month, long enough to forget you even applied. only to have the Store Manager(SM) call you to schedule an interview (Which is better than the alternative and much more common, you get on response at all.) The 1:1 Interview is as homogenized as the rest of the process, You arrive at the agreed upon time where you must sit in an inevitably overcrowded and appropriately named "waiting room" for another 30minutes. Then once you are about to fall asleep form boredom you are ushered into a very small very cold room and left by yourself to fill out the paper version of your Application (Yea you get to do it again! I hope i get all the dates the same? What was that phone number?) which culminates with the insipid "Angelic Test", ( Would you tell if your friend and coworker steals? -Yes, No you wouldn't, Will you steal paper clips?-No, Yes you will. Finally you get the face to face interview where you are asked to explain your application (I hope i get all the dates the same.) and at it's conclusion you are told you are a strong prospect and that the following day you will be contacted with a decision and given information about drug testing if it is favorable. The following day you will not hear form the SM so you will take it upon yourself to contact him, you will leave a message with no response. You will then wait the weekend and again contact him on the following Monday at which time you will be told the he has not yet reached a decision but that you are at the top of the list, then to the contrary he will add, “If you do not hear back from me by Wednesday the position will otherwise be filled.”? Again you will wait and by 4:00 on Wednesday you still will not have herd back from him, so in desperation you will call with the intent of thanking him for the interview opportunity. To your surprise you will be told, “The job is yours.” but that he is still waiting for information on background check and drug testing and that again he will be calling you the following day with the appropriate information as to where and when. You will not hear back from the Store Manager and frustrated you'll give up and go back to filling out those OnLine applications. Please do not misunderstand, the above is not meant to be negative, it is only to demonstrate my confusion. I am still interested in a position with OfficeMax and hope you will contact me soon..

      Interview

The interview process was very well thought out, designed to get to know candidates effectively. I really enjoyed the fact we met a large portion of the team, and did a variety of activities with different people. The tour was a highlight for me. Overall, the strong culture really shined through in the interview process.

      Interview

It was a quick interview. I came in early one morning and interviewed for about 30 minutes. They asked a bunch of standard interview questions. Mostly stuff about strengths and weaknesses. They asked about my schooling and extracurricular involvements I was involved in, since I didn't have any work experience then. After I finished they told me they would call back after they finished all their interviews . About a week or two later I got called back in.
