Interviewed Jan 2008 in Chicago, IL (took 2+ weeks)
After six phone interviews with a recruiter, HR, my potential manager and teammates, I came into the office for a personal interview with my potential manager, which was very short. The office was casual, laid back, and it appeared as if everyone was pretty busy, although there were a few people playing Foosball in the kitchen.

Interviewed May 2010 in Chicago, IL (took 7 weeks)
Since there was too much going on, I will bullet each stage of my experience.
1. First round. Phone call from recruiter. I could make out she was reading Java questions from a piece of paper. For the record, that is LAME! Get a hiring manager to do the screening. Recruiters know zilch about technology. In my case, she did not know about the job either.
2. Second round coding test. Very simple java coding problem. Of course, not without the expected goof up. The coding test had a deadline of May 11th '10 when I was given the test on May 16th 2010. Anyway, that went well and we moved on to the next interview.
3. Phone interview with an engineer. Went pretty okay. Lot of web stuff asked and discussions on unit testing and open source. The only positive thing about my process.
4. Cleared phone screen. Recruiter asked me to come onsite to Chicago. When I asked her if Orbitz would book me a flight ticket for that day, she said they would rather have me attend the interview on Skype. So there. Technical interview on skype and my internet connection died on me midway. So it ended up being a phone interview for 2 hours! As a sidenote, technical interviews should NEVER be done via skype. That's why we use whiteboards!!
5. The "Skype" interviews went well. The interviewers were very knowledgeable and the conversatoin also went well. It was finally time for them to fly me into Chicago. I got to the office at 12 PM for a 12:20 interview and the recruiter told me over phone that I was too early and I should hang out for the next 20 minutes. Yes, they did not put their interviewees in a reception. There was another guy who had come to interview and he was also waiting for 20 minutes. Once the interviews started, I was much more happy and did the first three interviews well. That was when my interviewer ( the VP of technology) realized that my next interviewer had left due to an emergency. So he brought in a replacement to conduct my interview. After that, I came to know that my final interviewer was not an employee at Orbitz. (Either that or the recruiter had screwed up very bad with the names ;) ). So that was the end of my interviews.
6. Amidst all this, I had also interviewed with another software giant in the mid west and I got an offer from them. I emailed the recruiter asking them for a decision at the earliest, but I did not hear from them for a week. Finally, 10 days later, the recruiter emailed me and asked me to schedule another 2 hours of skype interviews. When I asked why, she said I had not met the hiring manager when I was at Chicago and hence I had to give the interview. I politely rejected any further interviews and accepted the job with the software giant.
All through my process, I had bad experiences. I got a strong feeling that the company did not want to spend enough time and money to get the right candidates. I was very interested in working there, given their technology and impact. But the interview process put me off completely. I was a working professional and they knew that. But still, they expected me to accept their every schedule and never really bothered about my convenience. And after rounds and rounds of interviews and their inability to make a decision, I guess it was time to call it quits.

Interviewed Mar 2010 in Chicago, IL (took a day)
The office is very sleek and open. We were in a conference room where I shared a bit about myself and talked about the opportunity at hand. I met with 5 people in total. There were 3 different groups of interviewers: Group 1, HR. Group 2, a couple of their design team leads. Group 3, another couple of designers. It was nice to be able to talk to the people you would work with — they are very smart, easy going and reflected much of the company's laid-back culture.
The process was very standard; I presented my portfolio and they asked questions about my work, my processes, etc. It was a good experience, nothing too intimidating about it (no html coding tests, pop quizzes, etc). They said if they were interested, there would be another round of interviews.
Overall, a good interview experience.

Interviewed Nov 2009 in Chicago, IL (took 4 days)
I got this interview from Campus Career Center. The first interview is on campus with 2 interviewer asking me about some common questions and math questions. The following week I got pass to onsite interview in Chicago. The interview consists of behavior, technical and 1:1 interview. There are 5 questions in technical test: 1, given a rand() which only generate random number from 1~5, create a random generator can generate random number from 1~7. 2. Given a cell phone panel consists of 9 buttons which there are letters on each number key as the real cell phone, create a function can translate sequence of letters to numbers. 3. Create a function to judge if a linked list is a circle or not. 4. Convert a formulate in inverse poland sequence into normal formula, ex. 523+* into 5* 2+3. I forgot the last one sorry.
About the behavior, nothing to say, common questions. About the 1:1 interview. They asked me about Java about hashtable, how to distribute requests to different servers, garbage collection. I did not get that offer because I did so bad in the 1:1 interview. I am bad at Java.
So pity.

Interviewed Nov 2009 in Chicago, IL (took 6 weeks)
Met with at school career fair. Offered on-campus interview the next week. Met with 2 Orbitz developers, talked about interests, programming, looked at some Java code. Invited to on-site interviews. Taken out to nice dinner with all other candidates (over 40) the night before interviews. The next day, took a skills test, (psuedo-code), got an office tour, and then had two interviews with 2 different people, one group was technical, the other behavioral. Technical interview was very difficult, lots of prying questions about areas that I have never studied or worked in.
