Interviewed Mar 2011 (took 2 days)
First, I had a 1:1 phone interview with my immediate manager. Following her consent, I had a face-to-face interview with the same manager and their boss. A week or so later there was another 1:1 in person interview with upper management. After I was presented with an offer following my three interviews, I had a background check, drug screening, and physical DOT examination.

Interviewed Sep 2011 (took 2 months)
I submitted my resume and filled out an application via their online employement site. The following day I was contacted to set up a phone interview with an HR screener. At the time I was scheduled for my interview I was contacted by an associate, again asking me to set up an interview with an HR screener. This was an inconvenience because I had already rearranged my schedule for the first interview and due to their disorganization I again needed to alter my schedule.
After competing the phone interview I was informed that if interested, a hiring manager would be contacting me within 1-2 weeks. Two weeks came and past and at that point I assumed the company had decided not to pursue my application. A little over a month after my phone interview I was contacted by the regional service manager, I was asked if I was still interested in employment and if I would be available for an interview.
My interview was scheduled for the following week at the location I had applied, about 50 miles from my home (Relocation assistance was being offered with the position). Upon my arrival I was greeted by the regional HR manager (from another state) and brought to a waiting room where I was informed I would need to wait for two other parties participating in the panel interview.
The interview itself was a complete waste of my time, possibly one of the most unprofessional interviews I have ever had the misfortune to party to. I suddenly went from, on paper, qualified enough for the position to have regional managers come in from other cities and states to conduct the interview to being told I was far too unqualified for the position. I feel this has a great deal to do with my age and appearance. I have worked very hard to get where I am and have done so at a young age. To compound this I also look much younger than I am. I was referred to in the interview by the area supervisor as "young man" told that they would in no way in good conscience be able to place me in a supervisory capacity over technicians with experience in repairs exceeding my own age. I was "commended" for my courage in showing up for an interview that I was "So obviously unqualified for."
This company not only wasted my time, they have succeeded in insulting me as a human being. I was told the job description that was posted, the one I was well qualified for, was not really what they were looking for, and that someone like myself may be more comfortable taking an entry-level position fueling trucks or assisting mechanics. I took great offense to the attitudes of the individuals in attendance. I am not stupid, I know that for busy managers to travel such a distance I was obviously qualified, in every aspect other than years on the Earth.
A note to my experience, at the time of interviewing for this position I had recently been the Manager of a commercial/industrial repair facility with over $10M in annual sales/service receipts.
Please do not waste your time with this company, they are an absolute disgrace to equality and do not deserve to thrive in a modern society.

Interviewed Jan 2010 (took 3 months)
I was contacted by a manager, had a quick informal meeting. Mostly a warning of some of the downsides of the job. The individual was very through and honest about the positives and the drawbacks of the position. Then panel interview with district level management. Largely general, at this point the decision is already made, its the hiring manager's job to sell you to higher level management, obviously you'll have a interest in how this goes. Many weeks later received offer, no word in the interveening weeks as to whether I was hired or not.
Most hiring is done seasonally, end of summer promotions, late winter new hires for part time continues into late spring, college summer break. Interview process compressed and often sloppy late May to early October, expect quick hiring in that time of year.

Negotiation Details
No room to negotiate. I would tell the folks you speak to early on your financial requirements and if not good enough, you ought to just give up and walk out. If they really want you they will occasionally negotiate on these terms. The managers will claim corporate dictates wages, but it's determined on the district level and can vary individual to individual. When accepting offer you speak to some guy in corporate HR who has no authorization to negotiate or do anything other than process application. Negotiation should be handled early on if at all.

Interviewed Aug 2011 in Cleveland, OH (took 4+ weeks)
The head of HR contacted me to set up the interview. They originally wanted me to come in the next busines day for the interview, which was not possible as I am currently employed. At the interview, I was met by the team leader, the department head and the head of another department. The questions were pretty standard, however, I felt that the interview was off the cuff and that I was more prepared for the interview than they were. Mostly I was asked questions regarding clarification of my resume. I was told that I'd be contacted the following week. I followed up two times before I was contacted 4 weeks after my interview to let me know that they choose another candidate.

Interviewed Oct 2009 (took 2 days)
The facility for the interview was in a bad part of town not to mention the building itself was old. People interviewing were laid back and that made the interview go smoothly. I think that they were interested in finding someone who met the basic qualifications so they could fill the opening.

Interviewed Mar 2010 in Baltimore, MD (took 2 weeks)
Penske is a thorough interviewing company. They will most likely have you sit with more than one person two possibly three times. For sales Positions it is important to provide a sales/marketing plan as they will ask in different and detailed ways how you plan to immediately contribute. A focus on gaining new business right away is a strong position to take, but do not neglect current customers and your support staff. Having a plan for how to create a team atmosphere from your office assistant to your service managers is a HUGE part. hint* buy your mechanics pizza/donuts etc... they'll love ya and it will make a great first impression.

Negotiation Details
Penske believes very strongly that they are an excellent company that needs not negotiate. unless you can tell that they want you bad, you do not have much wiggle room here. After 2009 expenses and salaries were hem'd in to such an extent that I believe they would rather give up good talent who ask for more money and take mediocre talent that will do what their told.
