Interviewed May 2011 (took 3 weeks)
Applied on-line and received a phone interview a few weeks with basic questions about past experience and management style, customer service. Was forwarded to the DM for the area for a 1:1 interview. Asked behavioral questions from a packet that were very similar in nature. Three questions into the interview the DM stopped the interview and said it wasn't going to work out and that I wasn't the right fit for this position. I've had over 13 years of experience in retail with managing a 6.5 million store. Looking back I really didn't want to work at PetSmart it just wasn't something I would enjoy doing I think he could tell I wasn't excited. One thing that I've learned you MUST be passionate about the company and position you are applying for. It is not worth it JUST to get a job. I have learned that for sure and will only apply to companies that I can see myself working for and have a TRUE passion in working for. Good luck to everyone!

Interviewed Oct 2010 (took a day)
I applied online and recieved a call back within a week from 2 different PetsHotel in the area. Only one of the two could work with my schedule. The assistant manager of the PetsHotel scheduled a one on one interview for a couple days later. I showed up 20 mins early and I was not seen until 15 minutes after my scheduled time due to the PetsHotel Manager out to lunch. The Assistant Manager went ahead with the interview. It was a fun and friendly interview. Asked the basic questions like "why do you want to work here?", "what did you do at your past job?", "tell me about yourself" etc. The Assistant Manager and I got along very well. About half way into the interview the PetsHotel Manager walked in. The Assistant Manager brought to speed about the interview. The Manager then started asking me the same questions. I was given a tour of the hotel by the Assistant Manager and some of the employees told me what to expect when working back there. After the tour I was asked a couple more questions about availibility and when I could start. I was then offered the job on the spot and given a form to take a drug test at a Lab Corp nearby. You only have one day from when they give you the form to take the drug test or your offer expires.
The hiring process was the more trickier part. They just had a new hiring system put in so they weren't sure about how it worked. I came in a seperate day to fill out forms saying I agreed to the responsibilites of the job and I had to sign a form saying I had to wait a certain amount of time before I could work at another pet related store. There was paper work for how I was going to recieve my paycheck. The whole process took about an hour and a half. I was paid for that time. The Manager told me that I could start the following Wednesday. Later in the week i received a call from the Manager saying that I wasn't in the system because the paper work wasn't submitted correctly. She scheduled another time the next week to do the paperwork again. The second time I came in I did all the paperwork with one the supervisors and we did all the forms online and she told me that I should be in the system now. The 2nd time took only half an hour and I was also paid for that time.
After that I had to study for the Safety Certified Test and another test that I can't remember the name to. For both tests I was able to use the books they gave me to study from. It seemed like the book was outdated compared to the test so I had to guess at some of the answers. I had to come in 2 seperate days to the 2 tests. For the Safety Certified Test you have to pass at a 100% or you have to take it again. I think you have 2 more chances after the first one you fail. For the other test you only had to get a 80% and if you failed you could take it again. For both tests I got 100% and both managers were impressed by it. I was also paid for the time I came in to take the tests. On the second day I took the test after I finished I immediately started training.
Overall the interview process and hiring process was a positive experience. I understood that the hiring system was new so they didnt' work out all the bugs. After my hiring, the system worked a lot better so when others were hired it was a lot quicker than mine.

I put on my application $9. I'm sure if I put a higher pay then I would have recieved it. There wasn't negotiation for the pay. Whatever you put on the application they will give it to you unless its an absurd amount for a Pet Care Specialist.

Interviewed Apr 2011 (took 3 weeks)
Applied online, had to wait 2 weeks to hear back. Heard back, went in for an interview with an assistant manager, and scheduled an interview with the manager. Very laid back interviews, managers hadn't actually read my resume - and seemed uninterested in the process.

Interviewed Feb 2011 in San Jose, CA (took a day)
The Interview I have to say it was pretty straight-forward and easy, the store manager which was the one who did the interview was really nice and carefully explained to me the position that the job consist of and she also introduce herself very well, the interview overall was easy and asked the usual questions.
she talked to me like I already had the job and seemed like she really liked me but I never got called back or anything I think it's because I never really called back to check what was going on, so I think that was the problem
overall I had a good experience pretty easygoing and relaxed.

Interviewed Apr 2011 in Canton, GA (took 3 weeks)
This was my first interview for any job and I don't think I had a normal experience. The manager that was taking my first interview didn't really formally greet me or anything and I had to awkwardly sit there in front of her while she checked her email and text someone on her phone. (She did this repeatedly through out the interview while I just sat there and waited for her.) Then a store phone she had sitting on her desk rang a few times and was really loud and made me lose focus on anything she or I was saying and then she would interupt me or stop her talking to asnwer the phone. But in this first interview she basically talked alot about what this job would be like and I realized it is all about the customer and working as a team.

Interviewed Aug 2010 in Calgary, AB (Canada) (took 1 week)
There is an online questionairre that is supposed to decide whether you are ethical or not. It takes about half an hour and asks you questions about criminals, fighting, jail, argumentative people, etc and tries to trip you upbe rephrasing it over and over. Then if you are lucky a month or two later you will get a call back. Or you will walk in and find out they forgot the papers in a pile on the desk a long time ago. Then they ask some questions about your pets and past work experience. Judging by some of the people they have hired, the questions don't determine much. You usually find out within a week if you are hired.

Interviewed Sep 2009 in Hoffman Estates, IL (took a day)
I had a first interview with the salon manager and the 2nd with the store manager. Neither asked many questions. The store manager complained to me that the salon manager didn't ask me all the questions on the list. I didn't even go in the salon before I was offered the job.

Interviewed Mar 2011 (took 4 weeks)
When I initially applied online I called after 48 hours and was told they weren't hiring. However, 2-3 weeks after that I was called and asked to come in for an interview later that week. It was a group interview of about six other people being interviewed by two managers. Questions were basic, pretty much it was basically you showing off how professional and polite you are. You don't have to have a lot of experience; for example, I had no cashier experience and only 3 months of total work experience (not in customer service), but they hired me as cashier. Later I was trained with both a bather and a pet care associate who had no previous work experience. But we all had a passion for pets and it showed, and we were polite and well dressed (for college aged kids).
A few days later they called to say that they did want to have a second interview, and that they would call me back to schedule it. They took awhile calling back and I was the one who had to call them a few times before my second interview was scheduled.
I had my second interview two or three weeks after the first. It was basically the same as the first interview but this time it was 1:1 with the store manager. Both interviews ask you to describe yourself (mention your pets and animal experience!) and situational questions. Second interview went great, I could tell I was hired before I was offered the job. If they want you, they offer you the job after the second interview. If you finish the second interview and they say they'll call you back that usually means you didn't get the job.
Since my second interview was on the weekend they asked my to come in the following Monday to pick up the drug test information. I went straight from Petsmart to the company doing the drug tests. I passed, but they did not call to confirm my pass. I called them exactly one week after I took the test and was told I passed the drug test and would be called back early the next week. I was not called and so by Thursday I called them and was asked to come in the next day (Friday). That Friday is when I filled out my new hire paperwork and began on the workbook and training videos.
Workbook and training videos took two five-hour days. There were a lot of "store activities" in the book where we basically got up and found where products were in the store, became familiar with store brands, and we got to practice catching crickets and feeder fish. Cashier training is supposed to take two days with a trainer and by the third day I should be working on my own. Everybody is really friendly and has a real passion working with pets, even the cashiers.
It took two months from the day I first applied to my first paid day. Interview process took 4-6 weeks before my first day. I was told that they were short-staffed with management and that they were sorry for all the delays. I assume it doesn't usually take that long, but it can. Most shifts are five hour shifts, though I'm told there is an occasional eight hour shift if they are short on people.

They matched what I had been making as a seasonal Target worker, which was 9.00 an hour. They asked if that was okay and I said yes. I didn't negotiate higher because I know Target offers competitive pay and I felt lucky that Petsmart offered to match that, especially since I'm only going to be a entry level cashier and not a Pet Care Associate or something that would be considered skilled labor.

Interviewed Mar 2011 (took 1 week)
Put in application online as a bather and was contacted by petsmart employer the next day to set up an interview. First Interview basically asked what I liked and disliked about my old job, if I had animals, discussed pay and availability, and just basically talked about bathing experience. Second interview pretty much asked the exact same questions. Both lasted maybe 10 minutes. Then they gave me information about where to take a drug test. Took the test same day and called back about 4 days later and we set up a day for me to come in for training. No sweat really.

Interviewed Aug 2009 (took a day)
Applied online (with resume, coverletter, and personality test) and was contacted about a month later for an in-person interview. I was 16 (company now only hires 18+) and had very little previous work experience. It was a very low-pressure interview, I expect I pretty much had the job as long as I showed up on time wearing something halfway decent. Only a few easy questions were asked, 1:1 with a manager, then the manangers of a few other departments also met me and I was hired on the spot, as a cashier rather than the pet care specialist I was interviewing for (they told me they normally hire people with more animal experience for this position, but I'm pretty sure hiring a cashier was their intention from the get-go. Later I was cross-trained as a pet care specialist). I was then required to have a drug test immeditately following the interview.
